Hello Sir, I would like to use this clip or part of the clip in a future video. Would this be possible at all please. I would be sure to place your channel link on the screen and in the description. My video will feature both of these locomotives in model form and in the same liveries carried in your clip. I totally understand if permission is refused. I make no money from my channel, it’s simply for entertainment. Regards, Darren

Hi Bob, only just found your channel with all the old British Rail stuff. Really excellent footage and so useful for modellers of that era, like myself. I have a good few of yours to watch now. Thanks for posting them all. Sorry to arrive so late to the party! 😁Cheers.

Only just found this. Great footage; well done for zooming in on the wagons, not just the locos. Very useful for modellers. Thanks very much.

Great footage of 040, which seems to be a lesser recorded one and my penultimate 50 for sighting just before it was scrapped 😞

This should be lucrative goods traffic: Autoracks grain traffic and at least a couple of vans. We need wagonload traffic back on the railways to empty our roads and make them safe.
@Dieselbob6664 жыл бұрын
Hi There were some great looking trains in those days, The Speedlink service provided the wagonload freight, probably lost a bit of money but the rest of the world seems to subsidise the railways so they are plentiful abroad have a look here. webcam.deg.net/?a=showcam&w=showliveimage2&o=pla In those days I was contracting all over the country but unfortunately I didn't always have my camera with me but spent some great evenings at various Speedlink yards. Cheers Bob

Splendid footage! Must be Jan or Feb as 37306 went to 37273 in Feb 1989 before getting the Rf Petroleum livery in the following October during exam at Laira. And interesting to see 37078 with a new coat of blue (with larger numbers, a CF thing at time?) as she was due major exam and had one, plus repaint into Rf Petroleum the following December at Doncaster.

The 47 is 47360. Orange cantrail strips, no data panel this side and grey roof panel, with her faded blue paint just before Tinsley gave her the unofficial name 'FULMAR', then given RfD livery 7.91 at Doncaster works.

@@Dieselbob666 Hehe mate, i was at least honoured to have my ex girlfriend, who drove locos around London for decades, say things like 'wow how the f*** u know that' etc when having endless conversations about these things eh, ooof! . . Great uploads of yours sir, plenty of history in them vids, many thanks for sharing. . . And indeed, i guessed it as 47491 first, but thats deffo a grey roof on 47596 lol, the only class 47 in standard BR blue with orange cant-rail stripes and grey roof carrying a nameplate. Tinsley speedlink pool at the time, looks like possibly the 08.45 trip to Bow (which she covered too!), just before 47596 was reallocated to SF and was then painted into revised NSE livery during her next overhaul at Stratford Major Depot in March 1989, so this her last weeks in that livery in your vid. . . Another confirmation its her, there's a long scratch along her B side, as seen here. Many thanks, Aaron.

What's with the Peaks @4:12? I know that by the late 80's all of the Peaks had been withdrawn. I take it at the time these ones were either awaiting the cutters torch or have been earmarked for preservation. I know it's impossible to tell from here what their identities were but it's just interesting to see so many in one place after withdrawal. Great trip to the past. Train spotters back then were living the dream!
@Dieselbob6666 жыл бұрын
Hi About 40 class 45s lasted through to the 90s scattered at various depots around the country, unfortunately only 3 made it into preservation.
@Damocles1786 жыл бұрын
@@Dieselbob666 Ah thank you for letting me know. I actually took a look and yes quite a lot of them were sadly lined up to await their fate.Still on the bright side we did get at least 16 preserved examples between all three peak classes (44,45 and 46) :)

There were still a few peaks knocking around. I can remember me and my mate working back to Liverpool Lime st from Sheffield with one about 1990.

where did the 47 run light engine to?
@Dieselbob6666 жыл бұрын
Hi Lain The nearest point to stable and re-fuel would be Old Oak Common. When he crosses the bridge about a hundred yards on he can double back and drop down onto the Western Main Line and from there a series of points crosses over th Main Line to Old Oak from where he could do the return journey later in the day. If he didn't do that then he has to go all the way back to Clapham Jn where you can stable. Thats my Guess. cheers Bob

Seems they run out of wagons then if they used old coal hoppers for transporting scrap lol

Nice! Good to see 47270 just before its Tinsley name SWIFT was applied and still carrying its Haymarket motif on one side, always wondered if that was just on 1 side in '89-91, that confirms it! Cheers for sharing the memories :)

Whats the car carries wagons called? they seem rare these days?
@Dieselbob6666 жыл бұрын
Hi They are "Cartic 4" sets with anti vandal side frames, no longer around www.ltsv.com/w_profile_014.php. I think that IPA sets are still going but I am in the wrong area to see them. I am sure there are other types now. But those were the best days for freight with the Speedlink Services. Cheers Bob

Awesome vid right here! 37697 was the other loco i seem to remember, and 2 x refurbished Cardiff coal sector 37's at Langley was rare, i guess they were employed on the Robeston-Langley oil tanks, covering for the usual CF petroleum 2 x 37/0's. . . happy daze :D
