Fulda Gap was the classic invasion route into Western Europe. In '68, the Russians (tanks) were on the outside, Americans (tanks) on the inside. My dad (3/12 Cav, Headquarters Troop, recon.) was lead for a gaggle of some sweet motherfuckers; they had tac-nukes in their tubes..just one word from the Colonel: Russians weren't coming through. (After the pols settled matters, the Green Jeans and the Ruskies met between the lines..exchanged trinkets, phew-smiles, etc. Just kids with girls back home, happy that they weren't vaporized. Earth is a bad business.. Stay strong, heroes; thanks for your service; only you walked the line. Some of us know it, and love you for it. Thank you.)

To this day I regret not having exchanged a few dollars and ordering a real American T-bone steak from the NCO club. Why please was the 14th ACR turned into the 11th ACR if the personnel remained the same?

Thank you for wonderful memories,my husband and I were there 1968-1970 most of us were newly married, my husband drove the mess truck for Sg.Bare, they were out in the field a lot and guarding that fence line looking the enemy face to face, we were all young and grew up a lot,but had some good times also.

I was stationed there around 1972. I was in the 3/11th cavalry unit. I had a great time there and the German people treat me well. I remember that the billets were heated with steam pipes. If anyone has a picture of Herman's bar I would like to get a copy of it.

I am building a model of a 14th M114 in West Germany. Were any of them painted in the old MASSTER scheme (predated MERDC) or were they all olive drab? Didn't see any in this clip. Would love it if there was a still or photo of one. Thanks

We visited this area in September 2022. I was stationed near Hanau, during the Cold War and never got to visit this beautiful area back in the late 80s. I'd go back just to visit Rasdorf and Geisa again.
