So when you use these decorative stitches are you always stitching off the binding or does it depend on the stitch you pick?
@QuiltedPigPhoebe25 күн бұрын
I would say it depends on the stitch. I kind of want it to hit the middle so the most coverage from the stitch runs close to that loose edge.

I love that the rubber cement worked for you too! I always think of you when I’m looking for new unconventional tools.
@rebeccaflugge3913Ай бұрын
Do you find that one of these works better than the others for some fabrics? Are there any fabrics with which you wouldn't want one of these to come into contact?
@QuiltedPigPhoebeАй бұрын
That's a good question. I wouldn't leave the rubber cement lying around in contact with fabric, but I feel like it's pretty safe for cutting after a few hours. The Grippy specifically says it won't stain fabric. Never had a problem with the tape.
@margaretderen2082Ай бұрын
Knock-offs of this tape don’t work. Buy Nexcare! I also use it to build up a shelf on my rulers to make my own version of a Bloc Loc. (This tape leaves no residue when removed). Great video - thank you. Will definitely be trying rubber cement!!!

I am brand new to sewing and I have to say,you are seriously one of the best teachers I have seen. And I have seen alot this month lol. Thank you so much, what a wonderful time we live in. I am 67 and I tried learning sewing years ago more than once and always gave up. With the Internet I am enjoying every moment, even all the picking❤

This is awesome I’m not kidding this is great! Your technique is how I will finish all my future quilts. Doing it the way I was sometimes I would pull the binding over too far and then I had to go back and hand stitch all those yet doing the decorative stitch like you did will catch all of that and I won’t have to go back and do any handstitching, yahoo! thank you so much for this tutorial, I really did learn a lot ❤️

What width do you cut the fabric for the binding
@QuiltedPigPhoebe6 ай бұрын
Hi good morning! It started as two and a half inches.
@searchfamilies6 ай бұрын
@@QuiltedPigPhoebe Thank you I have cut my binding 2.5in which has been cut for a week as I am working on a quilt for myself so lucky I cut it at that 😅
@QuiltedPigPhoebe6 ай бұрын
I'm glad it will work out! Two and a quarter is enough for this idea, but 2.5 gives you a little wiggle room. Have fun and keep quilting. Thanks for commenting!

This is a great tutorial for me a new quilter! We should utilize the decorative stitches just like you did. Do you ever trim back the corners in binding them?
@QuiltedPigPhoebe8 ай бұрын
Absolutely. On the wrap around (last) step, if a corner looks like it will just too bulky to be covered, I'll start by trimming out a little of the batting. Usually that does it, but sometimes it helps to trim off just a little of the folded inside corner of the binding. Just be careful because you want the binding to be "full," and you don't want a hole to show up later. Good luck, and thank you for watching!

Great reminders for me particularly the specialty thread stand and a small cutting mat for small pieces. I also like your suggestion of bring several shades of a color if you have them in your stash. My hands get very dry handling fabric, so a small tube of hand lotion is in my bag as well.

The clamp is to aid the sewer when ripping out a seam etc. It holds the fabric ( Sometimes called "the sewing bird" )… It is a shame someone replaced the cord with that generic "Made In China" cordset. The bakelite connector is gone and the original cord was fabric covered ( this can be purchased from old radio supply companies as well as a correct plug.
