Same problem for 3 years now. The thing is just laying there because i couldnt find proof of purchase. I guess i expected a 'gopro' to be of good quality and quality checked before leaving the factory. What a waste.

I'm have the same exact problem but I have been emailing GoPro back and forth and they won't send me a replacement. The best they can do is give me a 20% discount on a new one. I wish they would send me a replacement

+Govand Xgovand You have to contact GoPro on their website. Send them pictures of what the screen is doing. They will send you a new one after you mail them the broken one.

Same problem here . . . seems like GoPro released version 4 too soon. Sending in for repairs after jumping through the tech supp customer hops. Would record flashed of magenta and green just like shown in your video.

Go to their website and send them an email. Include pictures of the problem too. They will give you the RMA code.

My GoPro is also doing this. It's up to date and I thought it was the SD card itself so I took it out but the camera still froze. I've also had a purple screen and a completely black frozen screen. The only way to turn it off is by holding the settings and power button or take out the battery. I emailed GoPro and I'm waiting for their response. I hope I can get this replaced because this is my first GoPro too. I'm afraid of the replacement not working. :(

Girlie Trinidad If your brother has the receipt from where he bought it from, GoPro can replace it. However, if there's no receipt, customer service is less than helpful. My husband bought his from a fellow Army service member here in Korea and I've been in contact with someone for a week trying to get a replacement. Since I stated that there's no sales receipt, they stopped responding to me. A-holes.

It took about a week of going back and forth with them over email. After they finally gave me the shipping info they had the new one to me in about 2.5 weeks. If you go the email route start off by sending them pictures of what it is doing.

It doesn't. It is a physical problem with the camera. If you just have freezing and you aren't using the recommended SD card it might be that, but chances are it's the camera. They rushed this cam for sure.

I think Im going to have to do the same as you and contact them and get it replaced because I bought mines less than a month ago and the 2nd day of use it had glitches but its worst now with the freezing and everything in your video, I'm upset because its my first gopro also,... what did you do to get your replacement?

I emailed them about it. On your first email attach some pictures of what it's doing. That will hopefully save you from them telling you it's the firmware or not the right SD card. Took about two weeks for the new one to come once I sent it to them. They paid for the shipping and everything. I'm waiting on them to officially address this. It's happening to so many people.

Thanks for sharing, I'm experiencing the same exact issue and it's super frustrating. I'm using the right card, I've updated the software and yet it still either freezes or turns purple.

Yeah they messed up. I think it's the censor. They must of used a cheap one. On your first email to them send a picture of what it's doing. That will save you a lot of time because they will try to make you try a new card and update firmware first even though that's not the problem.

1-14-2015 - Replacement GoPro arrived today. They even sent an extra battery. Used it for about 20 minutes today and so far so good.

i have a hero 4 black that has these same problems! started freezing up on day 1...so i updated the firmware and thought all was well....not so much. i even bought a better sd card thinking that was the issue. super disappointed with this camera.
