I was in Northern Wisconsin with my dad and even a little after twilight the aurora was well under way with a curtain of magenta rays and green dunes and the display went crazy. I did not get any video but I did get tons of still pics.

Thanks, the thumbnail for this video is a picture how my camera saw the aurora that night, which are the true colors. Our eyes can´t capture it like that.

Hi, I started at Krýsuvíkurvegur (rd 42), part of the Reykjavegur trail and returned past Keilir. There´s a nice trail from Seltún over the mountain (you find some more thermal spots up) to the area.

From 0 to 10 how close is this footage to what you can experience in person?

Hi, depending on the strength of the aurora storm you see anything from whitish/grey /faint green to as about as bright as in the video. This night was really good with strong aurora and we saw with our eyes the colours as in the video. With stronger auroras more colour will pop up but not much more saturated and darker green than seen here. When taking pictures you see more darker green and violet, purple and red. But the human eye in the night sky has difficulty seeing colours, we need strong lights to see them in clour. With weak auroras we see grey/white as our eyes see in black and white in extreme lowlight.

@@Comeongoviajes Yes, you would have to crank up the ISO to 204000...but the best part there is no need for going faster dan 1/25 for the fastest moving aurora. Even at 1/13 it doesn´t show motin blur and you gain a few stops of light.
