Certainly wakes it up, although mine didn't have the stock EDF in it when I bought it, it had a Xfly 70mm - I don't think these were any better than the stock Freewing fan. It takes a bit of foam surgery but seems to work well

I had one of the early Eflight F-15's, Just released then. It was a screamer once I had the right gear in it. The only negative really was the dainty landing gear and high landing speed. You had to scream it in each time on the flair and touchdown. After some gear replace I occasionally started using the tall brown field style arresttor net, gear up, especially in the gusty on final. When you shunt the motor completely off, it's like tossing out a out-of-scale drag chute. They do all kinds of crazy things. I started having just a little bit of engine speed on touch, and it helped a bunch. Neat flight, thanks. The Poseidon needed the SAM warning, those guys run out of tea and fall asleep up there. Someone in the Outback I think was brought down in a private craft by a drone. Just recently. Where in the hell??.

😎👌🏼 Is this plane difficult to fly with the wings swept? I imagine in real life wings were only in that position for high speed straight flight
@chrisedwardsrcstuff
@chrisedwardsrcstuff 7 ай бұрын
I guess everyone’s definition of difficult is different 😅 The way I have set it up, it seems to work well. When the wings go back you have to pull a bit more elevator to get the nose pointing where you want, and it would be a handful if I didn’t reduce the roll rate when the wings are swept Certainly satisfying to see it zip past with the wings back like a scene from Top Gun 😂

Why the high speed flapless landings?
@chrisedwardsrcstuff
@chrisedwardsrcstuff 7 ай бұрын
Good question! Bit of a crosswind, probably 15-20kmh at times. Too slow and it gets pushed around too much, it’s not a very big model - it handles the breeze well however. The way they have setup the thrust line it noses down if you cut the power, so have to land with more power than other jets I have.

Thank you for the detailed reply! I am debating between a couple of planes right now, and one thing that puts me off the Viper 70mm is that it seems you can't get a 5000 pack in there, max being 4000 which is a bit of an unhelpful size for use across models. Seems like this one can comfortably take a 5000 then in your view - any downside with how it handles/ lands as a result of the extra weight?@@chrisedwardsrcstuff
@chrisedwardsrcstuff
@chrisedwardsrcstuff Жыл бұрын
@@JMTerry1984 this is the 80mm BAE Hawk, so 5000 size packs are the smallest I usually run. I’ve flown it on 4000 hrb packs before but the flight times are short and the batteries get pretty warm. I have had a 70mm T45 Goshawk which is basically the same plane just a touch smaller and that flew great on 4000-5000 packs, even used a 6000 in it but it flew pretty heavy. A friend has the 70mm viper and 4000 packs fit ok, but I think the 5000 size packs are a little tight or need to mod it a bit. I have just sold my T45 70mm but I have plenty of videos on here of it. The best way to describe the FMS BAE Hawk 80mm is it’s like a big 70mm airframe with a 80mm power system. It does everything really well, fantastic flying jet
@JMTerry1984
@JMTerry1984 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisedwardsrcstuff good to know, on the FMS website says 4000 recommended but seems more easy to put bigger packs in than the viper! Just getting into EDFs, sadly totalled by Habu SS when distracted. Am also considering something totally different like the FlightLine 1600mm spitfire …

Cool flight ! How do you rate this model to fly ?
@chrisedwardsrcstuff
@chrisedwardsrcstuff Жыл бұрын
Once it’s setup properly it flies great. Don’t need much elevator throw - after a few flights on mine I’ve settled on about 50% from memory and similarly with the ailerons. Next step I’ll adjust the hole location to keep the throw and up the servo percentage to get some resolution back. It flies nicer than the 1.2m version I have. It’s not the fastest but looks pretty scale, and being quite big and heavy it doesn’t mind a bit of breeze. I’d recommend getting some type of sound system for it, makes the whole experience much more fun

@chrisedwardsrcstuff Жыл бұрын
@@JMTerry1984 I’ve flown this off grass and it’s fine, the smaller/lighter 1.2m size birds are a bit trickier I’d like to get a big Mustang, the only downside with the Spitfire is the narrow gear track - crosswind landings always seem to scrape a wing I think the 1.6m Corsair would be a good one also, my 1.2m Corsair flys great My spitfire has a couple of washers under the back two screw holes of the retract to get a bit more forward rake on the gear, really helps with grass strips - always a good trick to do with warbirds

Can't find a good pic of it, but if you have a look at this link you'll see there is a shaft that comes out of the retract mechanism. There is a screw that goes through the landing gear and into the retract shaft. I've replaced this twice now, as it only has a to be the slightest bit bent and the retract won't lock into place properly - www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004549615508.html

Looks almost like it didn't fully extend. Wheel wasn't centered after it extended. Then as you got closer to the ground, it slowly centered up. That could have been you using the rudder on approach too causing that... so I don't know.
