Today, I finished reading your book and immediately looked for you here. I am so glad to see the face behind this wonderful book. It was a good read and also emotional. Thank you, Tara!

Ringo is brilliant😅💯👍🏻 a brilliant drummer.. brilliant person. This book is really nice.
I first saw Chris on a real chrim story and felt he was really interesting, so decided to purchase his first novel. I have bought the whole series - including waiting for two years after pre ordering from Amazon - his latest. Well worth waiting for. His writing is so mature and I love the teaser at the end of each chapter which makes you want to read just a few more. Well done and can't wait for the next.

This is a great book, I read it during lockdown and was captivated, brilliantly written so much so I didn't want to put it down. From Billy's childhood and military service and entrepreneurial ability all foundations from life the hard way. I cried, I laughed and enjoyed. This book changed my life for the better it made me a stronger person. Thank you Mr Billingham

uh, correction, Doctor Gregory, Mary was NOT brought up in the court of France. She was brought up in a convent in Modena and she wanted to be a nun. Her mother had other ideas, and after D. Juan José of Spain had decided instead of Louis XIV's niece for Carlos II, there was interest in matching her with Ferdinando III of Tuscany, but it went nowhere. Which was when James II's agent arrived. She did NOT suffer from fertility issues. Catherine of Bragança or Katherine of Aragon suffered from fertility issues, Mary gave birth to fourteen children over the course of her marriage. Stillborn Child in 1674, 1678, 1681, 1683,1684 and 1689 Catherine Laura (1675-1675, suffered from epilepsy) Isabella (1676-1681) Charles (1677-1677) Shortlived twin daughters in 1682 (Elizabeth and Charlotte) James Francis Edward in 1688 Miscarriage of a son in 1690 Louisa Maria Therese "La Consolatrice" in 1692 What she suffered from was that medical treatment at the time for epilepsy (which both Catherine Laura and Charles suffered from) was sadly lacking. Her stepdaughters were NOT horrible to her. In fact, by the standards of the day, Mary and Anne were positively loving towards her when one compares the stepmother-stepchild relationships in Spain, Austria and Denmark. Mary was the one who encouraged her stepdaughter to leave letters for her smallpox-ridden sister to give the illusion that she had not yet departed for Holland. Despite being pregnant (and this may have impacted Charles' short lifespan), Mary remained at Anne's side. Anne was only persuaded to side against her father and stepmother the night before she left London to join William of Orange, and Mary II's "visible dislike" of her stepmother was ordered by William. Mary II was the one who was willing to adopt her stepbrother- something which is highly unlikely she'd have agreed to if she had such a horrible relationship with her stepmother. As to the "most of the army and navy" that declared it was a warming pan baby, again, nope. The navy was predominantly on James' side, the only reason William got through was because contrary winds kept the English navy in port. The only reason the army ultimately defected was because James refused to take a stand against William, if James had, he'd have beaten Will (contrary to popular belief, Will was a shitty commander and his wins were only when his enemies made mistakes or he vastly outnumbered them; James, OTOH, had a tried and proven record as both a military man and a naval commander). The "warming pan" story is actually only from Anne's letter to Mary, where Anne was not- as commonly asserted- calling her brother illegitimate, but rather passing on "family news" and "gossip tidbits". Neither Mary nor Anne personally believed this- both recorded as commenting on the resemblance to their father when they were shown portraits of their half-siblings. Mary II commented "from beneath the eyes to the chin, all my father, from the eyes to the hairline, my mother"- but William made great hay of it. The reason for the "rumour" in the first place was that Mary of Modena had originally planned to retire to Windsor for the childbirth, however, due to the heat of the summer that year, the doctors advised against travel. So instead, she spent her confinement in the sweltering heat of London. That was the first "reason" that the Protestants believed there was something shady going on, the second "reason" was because the queen "conspired" to give birth while the Protestants were at chapel- should they just have dosed her with laudanum (like they did with Louis XVI's mother, Karoline of Brunswick and Empress Eugènie to delay the birth) until a Protestant witness could arrive? On another note, James II was extraordinarily popular when he became king. Parliament was on his side, they voted he and Mary an extraordinarily large allowance (larger than had ever been granted to Charles II), not to mention James' incomes from his shares in the Royal African and East India Companies as well as the post office revenues that had been allocated to him.

I'm guessing that these are very early designs of Ted and Nancy in the drawing, since Ted doesn't have his scarf and Nancy doesn't have the dog collar that she wears as a necklace.
