I have a 94 like this, Ben reliable but it just did something weird. Motor runs great and trying to take off it would begin accelerate but then suddenly rev up like it was unloading before it could plane out. Never did this before. Then when I tried to pull it back into neutral it wouldn't go into neutral but was stuck and forward. Check the cables and they're both good and hooked up properly. Took the cables off and throttle control work smoothly all the way forward and backward, but when they're hooked up it will not pull the shifter back out of forward. Do you think the lower unit might be damaged or is it a linkage problem? I haven't hit anything with the lower unit or prop, there's been no grinding or clunking noises, no warning at all it just did it the first time I took it out today after sitting for two or three years

Even pressures mean the motor doesn’t have any problems. 90 is really low and needs new piston rings at least. Should be above 120 and 150 usually new. Some are 200
@stevenferraro78964 жыл бұрын
Not true necessarily. The Optimax diagnostic guide states that healthy compression is 90-110 PSI with no more than a 15 PSI variance. That motor is 21 years old. The compression isn't going to be perfect.

Who are these idiots on youtube? The old 2000 Merc optimax 225 -250 are not high compression engines. They are just not built that way. A brand new out box 2001 Merc 225 optimax compression was 100-110 max. With zero No hrs.

So how are you doing? Started the Remicade & Methotrexate combo? HLA-B27 negative? I'm from the metro N.O. area. I also considered making the trek to consult with Soloway. I was diagnosed with a Spondyloarthropathy a few years ago. It's been such a miserable experience for me as well. The worst part was the insidious onset and lack of help from the healthcare community. It took more than 15 years of diffuse and increasing pain levels before I chose to consult a Rheumatologist. Like you, I've seen multiple MDs over the years and not one suggested a Rheumatologist. I've wasted thousands of dollars over the years and put my life at risk by taking useless drugs. Some of the "specialists" I visited > Internists and Neurologists, a Psychiatrist, a Sleep Specialist/Neurologist, an Orthopedic, a Physical Therapist, and a Pain Mgmt doc.
@clotz622422 жыл бұрын
J, I am sorry it took 2 years to get back to you. To answer your question yes the Remicade and Methotrexate provided more relief from pain and fatigue than anything I have ever taken. I am seeing Dr. Mesa at Ochsner now he is a very good Rheumatologist and has continued my treatment. Give him a try. Best, C. Lotz

I had a 2001 90HP with about 110 PSI, but I sold it because I got a great deal on a 125 2+2 from Mercury. 2002 modell. This got about 130 PSI. The cylinders are the same size. (1386 : 3 = 462. 1848 : 4 = 462. Why does the 125HP have a better compression? The gauges were the same on both engines.

I think it's mostly the fact that even a 20 year old Briggs and Stratton flat-head (notoriously low compression) engine still has ~105-110psi, and if even a low compression, older car has only 90 psi, it's LONG since time for a rebuild. NOW, I'm not calling you a liar on this specific engine architecture; I personally know nothing about them. I do, however, have a fair amount of "general knowledge of both 2 and 4 stroke engines of various states of tune and size/application" and a couple decades experience myself. It's that 90psi is normally fairly piss poor. I do agree with you, that people can say that without getting all cock diesel about it.
@MRScrubNasty4 жыл бұрын
I have this same engine, same year and exact same in every way. I also have the service manual for it and it should have 100 to 110 psi NEW so 90 is not bad. Mine has 102 in highest cylinder and 98 in lowest and has roughly 1200 hours. I dont think that 90 is bad at all. If you think compression needs to be 140 or higher than x number in any engine, you should not be giving advice on youtube! You should instead be asking people for advice on how to read a service manual. This is not intended for the OP, but for the people commenting that he is wrong. Clearly the OP knows his stuff and he is actually 100% right.

Your Merc Opti max mechanic. (Which there is no such thing) is wrong. I'm certified Merc mechanic (all Mercury engines!) and factory specs call for 90 to 100 psi compression test. Not to deviate more than 15 psi between cylinders. This 225 is fine at 90psi will last for years!

@@SF-rl7hl Thank you for this information... appreciate it. I think the merc dealer in my area tested mine a few years back and told me my 300xs was good and had 135 psi. I was surprised. I think I checked it and it was around 100. With two different gauges. I think I even borrowed another one because I couldn't understand how the dealer mechanic was getting 135. Makes me wonder if he even checked it and was just throwing a number out there. It's low hours, well maintained, so what you say is normal makes sense and give peace of mind. Thx

Some of the later model mercury outboards carry a lower comp than a 2L-2.5 liter engines.My 2.4 carries 136 psi on both banks. although, testing in a tank isn't a sufficient way of testing, a dyno test would be more justifiable.

The Maverick Disc does not move in all directions like the M6 nor does it cushion like a original disc. The M6 does.There have been instances with the metal on metal design grinding together and causing blood poisoning with the Maverick. This also is happening with metal on metal hip replacements.When this happens the implant must be removed. I realize the M6 has a more complex design but it is the latest and greatest.
@clotz6224212 жыл бұрын
You want the Spinal Kinetics M6-L disc not the Maverick. Dr. Lang used to use the Maverick but now uses the M6. The M6 cervical disc is FDA approved. The Lumbar version is now in clinical trials and should be approved in a year or two. Keep in mind that in the US the FDA only approves disc replacement at one level of the spine. The patient can only have one level diseased to be a candidate. A doctor can do multiple levels off label but insurance will not cover it and it will be very expensive.
@clotz6224212 жыл бұрын
I had a M6 lumbar disc replacement done in May 2010 with Stenum at the L5-S1 level. The cost at that time was 28,000 Euros roughly $34,000. I was quoted in the US for a fusion at L5-S1 to cost $90,000 to $120,000. After the first level if a second or third is done each additional level was another 4,000 Euros or around $6,000.
