Gliding into wind no, I would climb more. As you need more than 11:1 to make "goal" if its upwind.

Correct, I would not leave either but not only for the reason you mention, though that is valid too. It’s more that we are gaining ground as the glide ratio needed is still dropping. Once it starts to increase we are losing ground.

Thanks for the video! Here in the Bernese Oberland I've seen the "guggi" föhn break through at 3hp and sometimes at 8hp there's not a breath of wind or even NW wind on the Jungfraujoch instead of the expected SE. I believe it is due to the difference in pressure, temperature or humidity at altitude instead of the normal pressure difference on the ground.

Yes, though pressure difference is a great leading indicator. Once the stability breaks it can fall easier, why in winter it stays aloft longer than falling down. Thanks for your input.
