I don't know there's a lot of stuff on here I heavily disagree with in this tierlist. Yellow Book should be in S tier. Its insanely strong you could beat the entire game just with this spell alone including Maxim because you can get in his face and just make him stagger and then because of how many times Yellow Book can hit him he'll drop to the ground and then just use and if your strong enough just beat him easily. Its great at handling enemies and its stupidly strong against bosses lasting pretty much forever. Its definitely S tier. Wind Cross should also be S tier because you can change the direction of the crosses to be horizontal with a command making it really good on bosses on the ground and hitting enemies on the ground doing really good damage. But the regular circular crosses are great at hitting enemies away or hitting enemies in the air. Its also great against Maxim if you want to keep your distance it'll keep hitting him especially if you turn it horizontal its really good against him too. Wind Book should be in A or B tier those books last a long while before going away and they don't disappear on contact like the Yellow Book or Wind Cross and the damage is solid the shield protects you. You can use this for a variety of enemies its just annoying that it'll go away after a while but its definitely good nowhere near D tier. Should AT LEAST be B tier if not A tier. Ice Fist should be in D tier because there are reasons to use this. Like its most a utility based spell which is bad but you can use this to get Vlad's Ring super early in the game without double jump and if you wanna skips past enemies you could manage it with this its obviously really bad but it does have SOME use and being able to get a Vlad early without needing to get double jump first saves a backtrack which is very useful. Regular Cross is too low. It should be in A tier. The thing about the cross is that it does an incredible amount of damage if you hit something with it 3 or 4 hits sometimes more if you get lucky and its not weak either. I understand the range isn't the best thing in the world but its definitely good. Especially against big enemies and enemies that don't stagger. It requires aiming to use effectively but if you can aim well it does serious damage and I could definitely see a reason why you could use this over the book because the damage is better if you can aim. Its a high skill high reward weapon but the book is easier to use and is more consistent damage overall so I agree with the S tier placement for the book. Electric Cross is really good because the duration it lasts and the power is amazing I would give it A tier for sure. Its hard to hit but its good. That item really useful because your invulnerable for most of it you could use this against Maxim after you use the Wind Cross and it'll a lot of damage and for the most part you can stay safe and the range is just good enough to where you can hit him again and again especially if he drops to the ground. You have to position yourself really well but its REALLY strong. You can also spam it in between your invincibility frames like even against Dracula its really good because if you distance yourself well you can hit Dracula A LOT and you won't get hit because your invincible for such a long time. Ice Cross is definitely terrible. B tier is too high. The amount of damage the icicles do is pitiful. It lasts a long time and will only use against an enemy but its TOO weak especially if enemies resist it. If the damage was at least 50 a hit then it could be higher but its not good to justify using this unless your a really high level. The highest I would place it is D tier. Ice Book is DEFINITELY not S tier. Yes it can hit enemies against the wall but you have into the wall which is easier said then done if you can do it this is really good but its situational and definitely not reliable enough. All the spells in S tier are really reliable and always good but Ice Book is C tier. Its a good spell for enemies on the ground but only situationally really strong. Fire Axe is definitely in A tier because its essentially like Axe Summon except the Fire Book way earlier and its a screen clear before you get the summons and its strong. There's a reason to use this and you're invulnerable so because of accessibility and strength its good enough to be A tier. Wind Axe is definitely D tier its too weak. Sure you hit the screen and hit everything but you only do it once and it costs a lot of MP. Its a lot like Ice Cross where the damage isn't good enough to justify using this. I think you were being TOO hard on some sub weapons and TOO easy on others. At least in my opinion.

I actually much prefer DXC graphics to the god awful cutesy anime art in Rondo. I never thought Rondo fit the franchise at all tonally and it's not that it's light hearted (because so is the original Castlevania) and it's not that it's anime (most the franchise is). It's just flat out too silly looking imo, not tongue in cheek anymore just flat out parody. So that's a reason for DXC to exist, it's a version of Rondo that isn't a joke. Nice to see CV64 getting some love though. CV64 is the last game in the series, hell the last bit of media in the franchise, that even slightly hit the same tone and style as the original 3 games. It's art style, it's gameplay (overall), it's classic horror film theme, the presentation of the Belmonts and other characters, the balance in tone between fun and horror, it's all so Castlevania through and through. And whilst good games in their own rights, the IGA games (including SotN and progressively more so the more they made) they could have been a separate series not titled Castlevania and nothing would have changed for them. The franchise post-CV64 is a metroid clone jrpg-ish series with some very standard fantasy anime themes. It's not the same series at all anymore and it's sad that 64 is the last time they gave it a real shot, yet is also widely disliked because a man on the internet said so.

If they'd made a better Juste sprite, and reduced the floatiness a little, this game would rival SotN in popularity IMHO. I still love it, but I understand the criticism.

This Castlevania was the only one with a pointless boss rush, the others gave you items after completion, this one just proved you could defeat the guys in succession.

The biggest flaw with the DSS system is availability. All these powerful and or interesting combinations are shuffled way in to the end game. Can barely utilize most them.

Not sure if the dominus collection changed phase two of the soma/dracula fight but whenever he jumps he fires the first worm straight down for me rather than at a downwards angle in front of him. I couldn't figure out how to run under him without getting hit because as soon as I could run under him I would get hit by the first worm he fires. I tried changing my spacing and timing for running under him and i can't avoid the worms

The grinding sucks in this game. I gained seven levels just killing a great axe armor before I got his soul. Then I kept killing the iron golem and never got his soul so I've had enough of that. The only reason why i would want to continue playing is to get to Julius mode where I don't have to deal with any of that nonsense anymore

Neptune is nice against stuff that applies poison or stone. If I remember right you don't get that status effect with it on.

You will never convince me Circle of the Moon is better than Harmony of Dissonance.

I finally beat Dracula. I was trying to use the volaticus trick and didn't realize you have to activate it while he's doing the animation to start another attack. As soon as i figured that out I was able to beat him. Probably one of the best Dracula fights in the series, right next to Portrait of Ruin (although he's definitely tougher in Order of Ecclesia)
