I think this must be the best programme ever made about Kenneth Williams. There are talking heads here that simply don't appear elsewhere. His aunt, Phyllis Gidley, for example.

I wish he and Tony Hancock had done a series of some description together. When they were together in Hancock's Half Hour, they were brilliant together! Opportunity missed there, I think.

My father was born in India is father was in the Indian army. He was a bit younger than Spike but same personality. My father came back to UK when he was 15 and could understand the weather and having to wear rope shoes. I am sure there depression came from plenty of vitamin d3 in India to nil in UK. My father served 32 years in the British army and Burma

i feel the need to state here unequivocally that i do not ever condone racism and never have, we are ALL family the world over as far as i am concerned And in this interview it is evident, as i know it to be that Spike Milligan too, does not condone that old fashioned and completely erroneous mentality towards one another due to skin pigmentation, cultural and physical differences. Intelligent and observant comedy genuises managed to bring a much needed intervention of laughter to help alleviate some of the deeply hurtful impositions that radical racism brought to ALL cultures, giving the perfect blueprint of... don't take it so serious, and don't let it get you down, laugh it off and get on with being all you can be, regardless of what others may or may not think of us. The beginning of this interview therefore is highlighting the old attitudes, evidenced when Spike talks of his Father's own mentality and indoctrination into that falsehood of racism and division. Love and Peace and Creator's blessings to us all ♥

This is a good documentary. It’s not a gooey love-in. It goes into detail about how difficult a person he undoubtedly was. It doesn’t detract from his mesmerizing talent nor the hours of joy he brought and continues to bring to audiences.

It's fascinating to watch this! Interesting to me to see the way that Alan Simpson seems to be not at all on the same page as Kenneth Williams on how he perceives things. I would say it seems that they were two very different people. Simpson seems a straightforward, matter of fact bloke, Williams an intensely sensitive, emotional aesthete. I would say the truth of the situations described is somewhere between the two opposing accounts they give! Lovely that they chose some of Kenneth's favourite classical music on this documentary, including music that he himself chose when he appeared on Desert Island Discs!

Brilliant interview. Spike was looking and sounding well. He was a lovely man who suffered greatly with his mental health. I remember my dad had all his books, that he wrote about his time in the army during WW 2, which he let me borrow..I was nine years old at the time and became an instant fan.. The books are very funny but moving at the same time..I highly recommend his books of poetry.and also the very funny novel Puckoon. Thanks for all the laughs Sike 😅🤣😂🤩

Craig Ferguson here had a terrible year in 1991. His addiction to alcohol was getting worse, and come Christmas Day 1991 he planned to jump off Tower Bridge. Thankfully a barman stopped this, and he went into priory to get sober and became sober in 1992.

Fascinated by the software decoding method for extracting the content from old VHS tapes. 4K is overkill though, since there was nowhere near that much detail in the original broadcast :) I've found your videos, downloaded at 720p 50fps and run through Topaz Video AI (Proteus model) clean up really nicely - and remove all the scruff from the picture.
