Hi there, Why are you all guys only explaining how the system works. That’s the most simply part of installing a start / stop system. Why not making a video from A to Z. Example: type of generator, how to install the wiring, what do you need to let it all work (victron cerbo? , relaybox) and step by step explain it all. I think than you will have a briljant video. Don't ever connect IoT devices online. And certainly not something as critical as power control devices. Keep them isolated on their own separated VLAN, just like you would with your Smart TV and basically anything IoT related. Not everything needs to be online, and this is certainly a big example of stuff that should never be connected to the Internet.

My Victron PWM 30 amp controller is faulty. Once it charges and floats in full sun the solar arrow led flashes fast. When you discharge the battery this controller does not recommence recharging a depleting battery. The flashing solar arrow does not cease, not even the next day, so it does not recommence recharging. Only reconnecting all again will restart the controller to work to fully charge the battery. I took it back, they are testing it atm.

So the battery powered inverter acts as the grid to “trick” the grid tie system to turn on. I would assume you would also have some type of battery charger running off the grid tie recharging the batteries for the other inverter. what happens with any extra power that is being produced but not consumed from the solar system with this kind of set up or am I missing something from what you described?
@TheOffGridShopАй бұрын
Yes you are correct. The "Battery Inverter" is an Inverter charger to make this work. It wont work with just a battery inverter.

My question is- could i connect the gti to the ac side of running grid with blocking diodes to prevent blowing out my DctoAc inverter? Or do i need to buy a victron multipass /or hybrid inverter to create a grid to activate the solaredge GTI? DIODES would be cheaper but can that work on the AC side? Also a hybrid solar inverter i could add a lithium bank and for shade could charge my 10k agm bank which you know doesnt charge easily with its limited capacity. What is your expert advice?
@TheOffGridShopАй бұрын
Yes you require a AC source diodes won't do the job. You want an Inverter charger. What country are you in?
@Qosmio1955Ай бұрын
The DC EV charging thing would be nice, but even then you are limited to how much solar you have. You can't "magic" electricity if you don't have the panels to make it. I don't have any data about the average size of off-grid solar system in OZ, but I suspect it would be in the region of 10kW to 15kW, which means, at best, about 13.5kW available for the EV (you still have to run the stuff in the house.) 13.5kW would be nice but, honestly, it's a bit "meh" really. My 7.36kW single phase charger has kept me on the road, without inconvenience, for over a year now. I'm also in the camp of people who like the versatility of being able to choose their own storage. My existing storage is Pylontech LFP and they're chugging along very nicely, but my next storage (if I'm not pushing up daisies before the Pylontechs die,) will be a used EV battery converted to suit my needs. (Who knows, might even be the battery out of my EV when it's too tired to run the car?) I agree that the reprogramming of Victron inverters if one dies, is an issue, but I have rehearsed for this possibility and have a step-by-step procedure loaded into my laptop and my phone just in case. I'm single-phase, multiple inverters (3x 5KVA) and could easily get by with two working inverters and make do (just) with one working inverter. The good thing, as you stated, is the reliability of Victron inverters. Most of the trouble (if the posts on the Victron Community pages are anything to go by) usually comes down to "finger trouble". People unnecessarily installing firmware upgrades, etc. I'm cautious of new entries to the tech world and I think that if Ii was to start all over again with my off-grid system I would still wait a couple of years to see how the Sigenergy stuff behaves. A lot of brands have fallen by the wayside in the world of tech.
@TheOffGridShopАй бұрын
Great info. And you are correct on all of that. Noark are doing a bidirectional charger which will be great. I think for off grid is more that you can siphon power from the car when required would be the real benefit. Thanks for your comments. Where are you located?

Your could do that and we normally use the Noark DC breakers to a bus bar. The Noark breakers I am talking about look like an AC breaker. Small and good value. Then you can easily isolate and they trip instead of blowing.

I understand a 40A DC circuit breaker on each MPTT output good idea! so my plan is ok to connect the 5 mptt together after the circuit breakers and then connect everything on a single location on the lynx? this will save me a lot of money rather than buying 2 lynx distributors! no risk of current return by gathering all the mptt?

I realise lead technology batteries have way more voltage drop than lithium, it's a question not a problem I'm having myself. Voltage isn't a great way to read the state of a battery because there are too many varying situations effecting voltage readings like under load or mppt voltage input. I just wonder how the inverter directs power to non essential loads through AC out 2 based on voltage. It's just something I ponder.
@TheOffGridShop2 ай бұрын
Yes state or charge would be a better way with this type of battery to deal with voltage swing. And none of it is ever perfect. I have several different brands and smart circuits at home and just this week had my hot water not heat and found out how to confuse a smart device and it didn't like to have different if this than that options. It's sad when such smart people are actually really stupid. How can anyone claim that nuclear reactors are the future? No power plant that converts resources from the earth into heat and then into electricity is climate neutral. Our atmosphere is already warmed by the sun. If we pump a lot of waste heat from reactors into the atmosphere, it certainly won't get colder on earth. But if we use the energy of the sun and the wind, we don't put any additional energy into the atmosphere. We actually take energy away from the atmosphere. That would make our world cooler... but I'm not a university graduate and have no idea what I'm talking about ;)

The batteries are fine, it was the cheap inverters that crapped out so i replaced with Victron. The issue is the guy installing these batteries has been putting 5kw inverters with only one of these batteries, you need around 114 amps dc of current draw to achieve 5kw AC so you really need 3 of these batteries paralleled to achieve this effectively. They have been installed for around 2 years, the customers ask if i can install 2 more with the existing battery. I say it might be too long to mix new and old, but you know these batteries, what do you say mate? I would appreciate your advice
