Question: I got a Cockatiel today, and I know that they need 12 hours of sleep, but I go to bed pretty late, and her cage is in my room. What do I do for that? Do I put a cover over her cage at a certain time? Do I be really quiet at night ? I also usually talk to my friends online at night, and I have to use my keyboard for my PC. I don’t know what to do about this, please help.
@curiouscockatiels88632 жыл бұрын
Congrats! Put a blanket over the cage, but make sure the cage is still well ventilated. If your room gets hot at night then I suggest a dark cloth so it doesn't trap heat. Try to keep it quite, she will probably squak and tell you to quite down when it gets too rowdy and loud. Mine squaks at me everynow and then :) in general have a night light throughout the night. If you play some rage games, keep her blanket off the cage. She may be grouchy but it's better then get scared and flapping around in her sleep! I hope this helps :)

@@curiouscockatiels8863 So i did this, covered her cage and everything, when talking to my friends i was basically whispering, had the light off, and had my computer brightness low, and when i checked to see if she was sleeping (it was like 10:30), and she was still awake. Know anything else I should do? I just got her and just want it to be healthy and not hate me.
@curiouscockatiels88632 жыл бұрын
@@ZachZone since you just got her, she is probably very alert. It will take time for her to adjust to her environment and get a sleep pattern going. One of my birdy babies, Callisto, took a few months to adapt to his environment and warm up to us. It takes time and patience in general but it sounds like your going to be great with her :)

@@curiouscockatiels8863 Thanks for the headsup! Also, im pretty sure it will be better later since school is starting in about a week, so I won't be up so late. Thanks!

@@ZachZone she probably woke up cause you checked to see whether she was awake or not by moving the cover on her cage. my situation is insanely similar to yours. in order to assure that my birds can actually sleep i decided to adjust my own routine to accomodate them and make sure they can get a solid 12 hours in. prob just leave her alone and she'll be fine once she catches onto the routine you set for her. just make sure to be consistent with the bed times i guess. it doesnt have to be exactly 12 hours either from what im aware. at least 10 hrs, idk. they'll prob nap in the daytime too so

My oldest is 18 and he love to take a douche under the crane, One have to carefully adjust the temperature before letting him or hes wife to get into the water though.Best is to use a spray-bottle, to wet the birds. They love it. The wetter, the better, until they can barely fly. It is fun to see them lying on the side, to get wetted properly.
@user31415926352 жыл бұрын
It is good to soak them wet if they want, for it is good for their feathers and skin. Thus they love to take a douche and get completely wet, into the skin so as they can barely fly until they have shaken off most of the water.

Hello. How many hours usually a cockatiel sleeps during day time ?
@curiouscockatiels88633 жыл бұрын
Hi Afini! Naps vary in the day for each cockatiel. Sometimes they nap if they have been very active (family and friends over interacting and playing) or if you take a nap they might cuddle you and take a nap as well. If they get snappy and irritated in the day while out, they may need a nap. If you notice a lot of naps and a lot of long naps, call your nearest vet (preferably avian if you have one near you). Long naps and frequent drowsiness are one of the many first signs of an illness in your feathered friends. Birds do not show sickness until it is usually too late, familiarize yourself with the early signs. I hope this helped 🙂🐥 check out my other videos for tips!

It’s not really necessary to check up on him unless he’s feeling ill but if that’s not the case avoid making any noise that will waken your bird right up keep the room dark and quiet your cockatiel will be happy if it gets enough sleep

and my family have to leave for a month long vacation, and we have 4 budgies. No one can come in to take care of them, what would be the best option? Are there any bird hotels during vacations?

ik this was a long time ago, but i would keep asking around, ask neighbors, i have the same situation, but my mom is a teacher and she has teacher friends who own a bird and are happy to care for my two budgies over my month trip. or look at your local exotic bird store bc they do boarding along with avian vets.

Once a week?? That's Alot for a bird! I recommend only bathing them 1 a month or every two months. Getting them wet every week can cause them skin problems and even over hydration. It is not good for them. I hope this helps!!

Do you ever use soap ? Also where did you get the hanging cage ? How did you install it ?
@curiouscockatiels88634 жыл бұрын
No soap, soap is harsh in their feathers and can hurt them. The hanging basket was a jewelry hanger i found in the clearance section of a store. It has a coat like hanger that let me easily hang on my curtain rod.
