The inset caption says solid mahogany back and sides but that is incorrect. The catalog states that the back and sides are rosewood. That mistake needs to be corrected.

I own the GS mini Koa+ and just recently bought this guitar to keep at my Mom’s house in another state so I don’t have to travel with a guitar to see her. I have to say, I do like the Martin better. Both to sound and playability.

We can tell it's "Spoon" playing by the green "army sweater" he's always wearing 😄 Hey Spoon, how do you think there's any different in sound between the "normal D-18, D-18 Satin & the Streetmaster versions? I really appreciate your opinion - thank you!!!

After playing several of these along side the all mahogany 15's..I found it lacks the chime/ringing mids, projection, volume and classic tone of the all mahogany 15M/SMaster..not a fan of short scales for versatility. I bought the 15M/S Master
@BubnHubn
@BubnHubn 6 ай бұрын
That is odd, considering so many people commenting on it having a lot of projection and being very loud...
@CarlandGrace
@CarlandGrace 3 ай бұрын
I own one and it competes with my D18 for projection. As far as tone I get comments from many guitar payers about the tone and it being the best sounding guitar they have heard in a long time. But you’re right it doesn’t sound like an all mahogany guitar because this one has rosewood with adi VTS top. So no it will have a completely different sound signature

Mary Lou Lord's "Grandpa" guitar (used by both Kurt Cobain and Elliot Smith) is the inspiration and selling point of what Martin Guitars is offering here. The original now resides in the Martin Guitars' museum. Since there's truly only one left to tell it's tale, I would hope that Martin Guitars has reached out to Mary Lou Lord for promotional subtext and financial consideration (perhaps a complementary faux Grandpa would be advisable).

I have mentioned in a spoken review video for Maury's Music the fact she gifted it to Cobain and will mention it in my written review. Lord owned the guitar for less than three years before giving it to Cobain. Her name isn't going to sell any guitars the way Cobain's will. Being a professional musician and being an international superstar musician are entirely different things when it comes to celebrity marketing influence.

Thank you for referring to it as Mary Lou Lord's guitar. I've seen countless articles and video's calling it Kurt Cobain's Martin with the slightest or no reference to Mary Lou Lord. Which is damned insulting.

The “finish” is modeled after Kurt Cobain’s 1953 D-18 that was gifted to him by Mary Lou Lord. The same 53’ sitting in the Martin Museum. It’s a screen printed image on the top under the finish. Sounds like a new D18. Martin should try imitating the sound of an actual 53

They have not taken the Authentic Series into the 1950s yet, or late '40s. Rear-shifted non-scalloped bracing is a sound I like a lot, but it is not very popular these days, compared to the forward-shifted scalloped bracing. The D-28 Rich Robinson is as close as you get right now. It is a fantastic guitar. I would not be surprised if we do not see a 1950's D-28 offered at some point.

Hey Spoon - Beautiful guitar - my concern is - Will it be definitely limited to 100 ... at 11 grand in Europe I think Martin should confirm it will only be 100 .. I think Maryin said the CEO 9 would be limited to 50 .. but changed their minds due to orders .. " you can't be doing thst lads " 😅 Any information would be great .. thanks Spoon , great review .. you have my email t6................. 😎

The original Street Legend was owned by Mary Lou Lord (One Woman's Guitar) which she gave to Kurt Cobain. Martin Guitars hasn't credited her or even offered her one. This is a replica of her guitar, right down to every marking.

I do mention that she gave him the guitar in the video review I did for Maury's Music. Lord bought the 1953 D-18 in 1988 and gifted it to Cobain in 1991. He dubbed it "Grandpa" because of how old and beat up it looked.

DOES MARTIN MAKE ANY GUITARS WITHOUT TONE WOODS ?
@tspnyc
@tspnyc Жыл бұрын
Yes. The X Series 1 models are made with high-pressure luminant for the back, sides, and top. HPL is made from wood fiber and natural resins. The X Series 2 models have a solid spruce top, but they still have HPL back and sides. Otherwise, various instruments in the Road Series are made with veneers, rather than all-solid tonewoods. They have a solid core of khaya, an African species of mahogany, which is covered on the outside and inside with a veneer of figured koa or ziricote. The khaya provides the stability and flexibility of solid wood, but the reflective tonal properties from inside the sound chamber take on the sound of the koa or ziricote, while costing a lot less than solid koa or ziricote.

Beautiful Spoon! The guitar and your playing here. I watch ShawnBrockMusic on YT. Shawn is a great guy and plays these crazy expensive guitars often from Dale's Show Stoppers... anyway, im guessing you know about that; but that was the first time i learned about Martin using Walnut for back and sides (but Adi top on Shawn's vid). I think this guitar sounds here sounds 'bassier' than rosewood in the right places, like the one Shawn played (link below if you wanna watch). Do you think so? Or what is your thought on Walnut? (and sinker redwood? if you wanna answer.) THANKS for ALL you do, Spoon. You're a stand up guy and a Legend. I listen to the Martin's and More Podcast every time an episode drops!
