Ngl this video gave me more questions than answers. How do you just change keys from major to minor like that and it sounds good, sounded terrible when I tried it 💀 just can't wrap my head around it and I've been playing a couple years now :/
@daveyjones4579 сағат бұрын
I'm not changing Keys... I'm going back and forth between the major pentatonic and the minor pentatonic scales in the key of A... this is just an exercise for Switching between major and minor scales. There are other lessons i have that will show you these patterns in different keys. Are you wanting a link to a video that spells this out in more detail?
@ash_530i6 сағат бұрын
@@daveyjones457 Thank you for the reply, yeah that could be helpful. Just the part that confuses me is that when you're changing to the minor pentatonic, isn't that relative to C major? So you would be changing keys technically?

how does playing in a different key make it sound like a different genre???? no sense
@daveyjones4573 күн бұрын
The major and the minor scales are the same pattern... you just play them 3 frets either up or down. (I have other videos on this specifically) in short, to answer your question, that shape over an E chord is the minor blues scale.... that same shape, same place is also known as the G Major scale (minus one note)... so if you play that scale over a G chord, you get a more country sound. Just try it before you say it doesn't make sense. Or follow my videos, and i explain all of this.
@dontaydecker5673 күн бұрын
@@daveyjones457 what you said and what you demonstrated were different things, you said you can take the exact same scale in a different key and end up with a totally different sound, i understand you meant “move the scale shape”, the way you worded it is confusing especially for someone who is new to music
@meadish18 сағат бұрын
@@dontaydecker567 He didn't move the scale shape. He played the exact same shape and notes as before, only he used a different reference chord, which means the relation to each note in the scale became different, which creates a different sound.

I'm not a guitar player, but I think what you are really talking about here are different modes, but you are just not mentioning those mode names.
@daveyjones4573 күн бұрын
I'm not talking about modes... you're major scale and your relative minor scale are the same... modes are confusing to people, although i do game videos that explain them. This is a much easier way to think about scales
@danielcoetzee714020 сағат бұрын
@@daveyjones457 well in a major key the 1 will be ionian and the relative minor will be the 6 which is the aeolian mode. In the key of G the 1 is the G major and the 6 is Eminor. Please correct me if I'm wrong
@Peapodzilla3 күн бұрын
Is there a simple explanation for why this works and how you can apply it to other chords?
@daveyjones4573 күн бұрын
Yes... you're major scale and the minor scale of your relative minor are the same scale... in other words, the E minor and G Major scale are the same.... likewise, the C major and A minor scale are the same etc

Play those 2 patterns on top of each other and you’ll get: 1-2-b3/3-4-5-6-b7. That’s Mixolydian with b3 added in. Always go up from b3 to 3, and throw in b5 from the Blues scale.
