My 2 cents for what its worth: my University Valorant experience was pretty similar if not worse lol. Although I'm from western Canada and played at a major Canadian University - our eSport scene was very small and essentially completely undeveloped (the official University eSports club opened in my 3rd year). My tryout experience was abysmal since I didn't know anyone that competitively played Valorant - as a result, I signed up as a solo and they paired me with 4 randoms with a wide range of skill. At the time I was an Immortal Duelist/Entry Fragger, and my team was comprised of another Immortal player, a Diamond, a Plat, and a Gold. Although I was frying and playing well, getting nearly 80 kills total across three tryout games, we eventually lost to more organized/higher skilled teams in the tryout (essentially teams that signed up as a 5 stack). When the tryouts were done and I didn't make the team, I was still kept around to practice with/scrim/sub for games. When I DID play, it was clear that the University Valorant experience is NOT what most people think it is - in fact, it kind of sucks. There are many factors that I can explain, but I'll talk about the main ones for me. Since I'm in western Canada, playing against American/Eastern Canadian teams were hard due to time zone differences, and the ping. Every match we played was a minimum 60+ ping, making it impossible to play competitively when I'm used to the Oregon/Norcal server with around 25 ping. Some of these matches would be LATE at night, when I seriously needed to sleep as I had classes early the next morning. Next is the ego that players develop, and the toxicity that comes with it. While most of the people I met were nice and fun to talk to, some players took the game more seriously than others, and truly believed that playing on a collegiate team was like turning pro - when in reality, they aren't and very far from it. Being a collegiate player doesn't mean you're good at the game, or even cut out for being pro, but they still act/talk like they are. The skill gap between the worst pro player and an average collegiate player is still MASSIVE. Finally on the topic of skill gap, even within the collegiate scene there is still a massive skill gap between teams/schools. Some schools just simply have better players, such as UofA or Waterloo having multiple if not a full team of Radiants on their team. Some teams have literal content creators, high ranking Radiant farmers, people who are already signed to an org/content creator for an org, etc.... For my school where we had maybe 1 or 2 ex-Radiants and the rest of the team are just Immortals, the game just becomes a team diff or skill diff of the highest order. If anyone wants to watch my tryout matches, I have the vod posted on my channel - I'm well aware that I'm an awful player but I played how I played at the time so what can I do lol

i think its good to set urself a high goal but u also should split it into smaller goals (imm2,3, radiant, top 100? etc.) or even other goals like watching your vods and always learning at least x amount of stuff out of it or getting other opinions on it

From a personal level I can agree that balancing everything is very hard and I struggle with the same thing with you… editing, gf, school, and sport/gym and most importantly… family time. It isn’t unrealistic to hit rank 1 but, just change your mindset in games where you take control and don’t say that you can’t control anything. There is always something you can do in the game to make a difference. Be confident with your decisions making and focus on the fundamentals aspect of the game as I’m a radiant my self trying to grind to go pro as a 17 yr old high school student.
