We have a foot treadle model 179 machine new in 1974. It was my mother in law's. I need a pivot screw for the treadle foot plate. Do you know where spare parts can be obtained? Thanks, Don

This brings back memories. I served an apprenticeship as a Linotype Operator from 1967 to 1972 in NZ. I served that apprenticeship at the South Waikato News in Tokoroa on the North Island. When I started I was apprenticed on a C3 but after I completed my apprenticeship and the other operator moved on I worked mainly on a C4 and had an apprentice running the C3. We only had the two machines and it was a question of servicing them ourselves as the nearest Linotype mechanic was in Auckland. I got a real surprise when I moved to Wellington to work on the Dominion who had a battery of Lintotypes. I soon sound out I wasn't even allowed to clear a disser jam or do anything else that required minimaI maintenance like cleaning spacebands. I miss those days. Congratulations to you guys for getting this post up. Cheers

What is the maximum hole size you recommend that can be mended this way?
@MendItAussie3 жыл бұрын
These holes were not that large so did not require a patch to then darn. A larger hole 1" = 2.5cm or larger would require a patch of towelling or other fabric to fill in the hole before darning. I hope that helps. Happy darning, James! Oh, and 4+ yrs on this towel is still in reuse.

No, it was a problem with the computer board. To replace it was not an option for us. And without schematics the board could not be troubleshooted. It was harvested for parts but not before trying our best to fix it.

I have this exact same machine, it was my great grandmas. Do you have any idea how much it’s worth or what year it’s from? I’m having a hard time finding any info on this model.
@MendItAussie4 жыл бұрын
We are not traders and have no idea of value. However, we would not pay more than $25 for a vintage machine. This was $5 from a tip shop. Vintage Singer Sewing machine group may tell you what enthusiasts would be prepared to pay. This is a mid-1960s machine and operates as well as the very popular and collectable Singer 201k.
@caileyhesse82104 жыл бұрын
Mend It, Australia No worries! I was just curious if you had an info on the machine which you did so thank you. I figured it was from the 1960’s but couldn’t match the serial number with any of the guides I came across. Unfortunately over the last decade, since I’ve had it, it’s just been collecting dust so hopefully I can find someone that will really appreciate it. It’s a beautiful machine. Take care.

I started out as a Linotype mechanic apprentice at the Daily Telegraph in Napier, New Zealand, in 1969. Part way through I changed to operating. The paper changed to cold type and a became a photolithographer. Did that until May 1999 and they merged us with another paper and closed us down. I can still remember so much about the Linotype. It never leaves you.

@@MendItAussie Good news I fixed the jamming problem for now. There was some cotton and a bit of material inside the bobbin driver. Once I cleared it and cleaned it properly with some alcohol it looked brand new. A question from Canada Greetings! I was able to rescue a Breville toaster (Model Number: BTA720XL). The problem is that the lever does not latch down. I found your video on youtube kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaq3eGOiZrijo7M which is wonderful, however I'm having trouble removing the lever. Do I just yank it with more force? RUDE Boy seemed to have removed it so quickly. I'm really struggling to get it off. If you receive this message, I would love some insight. PS. The device was filled with crumbs and raisins!

A public comment to me via Facebook Karen, I watched this last night too. Have been a long time critic of this endless sprawl. In Hume, developers have been allowed to do what they want. As you know, the demographic is similar here to Melton and so also many of the same issues. J....., while there are the McMansions, (with 4+ BRs, 3 bathrooms, home theatre, 4 car garages and that essential, the parents' retreat etc etc), behind them are the "house and land packages starting FROM..." Omg, they're packed in like sardines...so close to the neighbouring houses you wonder if a minimum clearance still exists. I think not. Only enough space in the "backyard" for the compulsory netted trampoline (smallest version)...one side touches the house, the opposite, the fence. Not only are these developments unsustainable environmentally, but they result in unsustainable communities, with limited, if any, cohesion, identity and sense of belonging. Hume is set to grow by 46% by 2030...13 years away...
@MendItAussie7 жыл бұрын
A public comment to me via Facebook Mm.. we noticed this more and more as houses spread like a field of mushrooms over the green fields and hills. Houses made of 'ticky tacky' to fulfil a dream of the 1/4 acre block in suburbia. A sea of roofs cheek by jowl without any amenities or soul. These people are selling out their lives to support an unrealistic dream. The prices are outrageous. I saw 4Corners last night. What happened to the little home, housing a family and neighbours to form a village for children to thrive. Greed and false dreams of the Mac Mansion are destroying the good life. Debt is the new black.

Just couldn't agree more Karen. Volunteering is so tied up with bureaucracy and has a hierarchy just like the workplace. I volunteer my time quietly and much less these days because I'm getting older. For me it's all about community spirit and genuine help. The last official volunteering job I had was just slave labour for the paid bureaucrats. Never again, I needed a Police Check, a Working with Children Certification and Level 2 First Aid.
