"The Water Is Wide" (also called "O Waly, Waly" or simply "Waly, Waly") is a folk song of Scottish origin. It remains popular in the 21st century. Cecil Sharp published the song in Folk Songs From Somerset (1906).

Every time that I listen to Maura sing this I cry like a baby. Nothing else can make me cry. I am dying of cancer stage 4 and am trying to bring resolution to the close of my life. Lorraine Spence broke my heart but there is so much more. Don't wait folks until death is looking at you to bring peace into your life.

Nigel Walton the value of music is subjective for each listener, music cant be rated from a functionalist perspective like you would an automobile, can openet, etc

humm, she just placed that on canvas right before our ears! Took my breath away & it wasn't until almost to its end that I noticed tears streaming down the sides of my face. I don't think I've heard something this beautiful in years. P.S. someone posted that Maura needs to return to Ireland and "they" need her. Well, Maura's a perfect example of what (and who) made America great, so we'll keep her!

A person from a difficult and violent childhood (as per Migenes' bio on her official web site) who succeeded in adulthood could resonate with the message in this song.
