"Father" in this case is a title Arlecchino uses and by which she is called by the children of her orphanage. She grew up an orphan herself and her "Mother" back then was kind and warm on the outside but actually quite ruthless and cruel. So Arlecchino decided to go with the opposite of a "kind and warm mother" and went with a "strict and unfeeling father" on the outside but on the inside she really cares about her children.
