Good lesson I get really bored with Box patterns on guitar and none of the songs I learn the guitarist rarely uses the pattern just uses parts of the scale to come up with a cool melody which is what I'm struggling with coming up with something unique of my own.

Fascinating stuff as always. One trick I like doing with my students is getting them to do deliberately "contrived" improvisations to absorb the sound of specific intervals - start and finsh on a root, a 5th, a 3rd, 7th etc. Helps to give an aural reference point for finding the note you want to play from the scale

The point part is correct, it's easier to play with a sharp pick because there's less mass bisecting the string in its suspended poundage, less material and lower profile therefore easier to cross the string cleanly, but the higher you go up in gauge the more you will begin to reintroduce resistance. If all you care about is execution and performance, I'd recommend something like a Jazz III or Tortex III anywhere from 0.73mm up to 1.00mm, more and picking starts to become stiff again, but more importantly than all of that is tone, and pointy picks give much less body to your transients. A lot of these fast picking shred guys have really thin lead tone and it's because they use sharp picks with no front end to their single notes. Ultimately it's the player's decision but I think tone should be the prime consideration when choosing a pick.
