stop wearing black and pretending you are a designer. At your level, you are a problem solve and technical drawing rabbit in a sweatshop.... if you are gainfully employed. Someone else is the designer, you are simply producing compliance documents to respond to a clients contract and authorities having jurisdiction. As far as a race to the bottom, there are no sprinters faster than architects

I am fortunate to have been born in 1957 in Barcelona, so I know what was to walk ramblas before 8 am with no people around, to go into the cathedral and listen to the silence, and in July, August the city was a quarter of the people since most left the city on vacation and now I do not want to visit Barcelona as far I am concern it has been destroyed, again lucky to have grow up when the world had not a clue of its existence

thank you brother for sharing your experiences.🙏🙏🙏 I'm currently an architecture student but thinking about switching paths, i would say the deadline and the sharing ideas with people are my biggest fears. i procrastinate a lot and i feel shameful after being judged on my ideas(they means a lot to me)

It depends on a lot of things, especially location. If you're in the US, being an architect for the majority of people will be managing a team, managing consultants, and managing clients, reviewing designs and documents, mentoring younger staff. You just need to be realistic with yourself - do you love architecture enough to work the long hours, or are you ok with not advancing if you're not willing to work the hours required?

Well, one error, you mentios the municipal library which actually it's not the municipal one own by Bilbao city, located in the old Towns, instead it's the Vizcaya Provincial or Foral Library, how it's named, owns by the province of Biscay.

I hate to be an architect. I worked in 3 countries so far and i didnt liked it anywhere. You have to work long hours for low salary. And the nature of the job... im getting sick of Archicad and the shitty tasks. I feel like i need to change carriers otherwise i will have health issues. I hate it so much...

I can't speak specifically to the engineering field, but generally to increase your own value you need to make yourself irreplaceable to your company. Outside of that, looking for paid overtime and switching to new companies every so often are ways to increase your pay
