Hi Richard. I have a OBW expedition with rim brakes. Can I install a rohloff hub?

NO dyno hub and lights?? FAIL. Mine has s a SA XL-FDD with an awesome DRUM brake. The original one has 29,000 miles and now on it's 3rd bike. ZERO fuss is any weather, lights always on. The whole wheel is as good as new. Sealed bearings were replaced of course. But yah, needs a strong fork. My first one broke 3 times on my first tour in VN and China. Now has a tandem fork, that's my preference 1 1/8" threaded with loose 1/4" balls. My bars have more sweep, 75d. Way better IMO. That guy's bar still forces the palms down like a straight bar. My Rohloff14 now has a TRP Spyre cable disc. Stops on a dime, zero squeals. Cogs on my last tour were 46/ 16T, are now 44/ 16T. My last ride with not much tailwind, I was in gear 12 and 13 a lot. A 38T crank is stupidly low, but yah everybody does this. Can't push phobia. LOL.

He built it up himself....shop around and buy the parts second hand....people upgrade the whole time.....you dont need a $6 000 touring bike...I use a Bob Ibex trailer...toured over 30 000km with it....never had a breakdown in my life....and I had heavey loads....sometimes up to 15lt of water and food for up to 4 or 5days alone....

Can the Rohloff system be added to most bikes as an upgrade?

If the frame has been designed for it yes. Most decent bikepacking/tour bikes probably have been. My Surly can be adapted to it if need be.

The people who sell the hubb will be able to tell ... most bikes are...some just need xtra parts to make it work...

Why not use Magura rim brakes? They are very powerful and maintenance free. I love them! (And V-brakes are pain in the ...)

You need a special frame to fit a belt...

I love your bikes ,I'm saving up for one👍I bought an entry level mountain bike to get back into cycling but it has been terrible. In under 6 months bottom bracket replaced disc brake pads worn out and constantly adjusting them, and both wheels slight buckle.i only ride gently to work and occasional cruise around. My old ridgeback from the 80s was better I had it 20 odd years, the steel frame absorbed the bumps much better

Looks brilliant. I like the bars especially ... been trying all sorts of bars with my Dawes and yet to find the right ones

@@yashchirka4060 my comment was more about my indecision about what shape of bars to get. I've since visited Richard and discussed a variety and opted for less of a sweep than these. I have Dutch style bars on my town bike and they are great for that but unsure if I'd want them on long tours?

@@robwoodphotos My vision might by blurred, in Holland you can get these bars in a huge range of width and height. So we're spoilt. there are even racing and MTB versions. Both are hilarious and the coolest.
