Seasoned wood has a moisture content of 20% or less. That means storing it over summer under cover or kiln drying it. Standing dead trees are not seasoned unless the bark has fallen off and you live in a very dry climate. Also be aware that many states have a unit of measurement that firewood can be sold by and that is the "cord". Selling by the "truck load" is not a standardized method as there are so many different size trucks so the customer really has no way to determine the volume they are actually getting. Best to measure how many cords your truck holds and sell that amount of wood. When you make the decision to buy a log splitter, you will not regret it. A splitting maul works well by it physically beats you up. I finally broke down one day when I got some cross grained cherry and have never regretted that decision, Keep up the woods work!

As soon as that tree gets to the top of the wire, deer will nip them off. Either make the wire cage diameter at least four feet so the deer cannot lean in in and eat them, or move your existing wire cage up the posts as the tree grows higher.

Can you use pine wood shavings in the chicken run or only in the chicken coop?
@DonathfamilyhomesteadКүн бұрын
I can't see why you couldn't. The only thing is it might break down kind of fast. It would certainly help keep the smell down I would imagine. I think farming is all about trial and error so the best thing is to give it a try and go from there.

My second saw was a Husky 50, only problem with it, was a choke lever that wouldn't stay on choke. Very smooth! My second saw was a 346xp, still my all-time favorite. I have heard a lot of good things about the 550xp mark 2. I think Husky probably makes the best 50 cc saws. If you know someone with a 550 ask them if you can try it for a few minutes, you will likely be sold. I would need more time with Stihls to give a better assessment.

Do you find that people are actually honorable with your kid's farm stand? I always wonder when ever I see one if people are respectful. I don't use tomato cages anymore, they always let me down, and also let the plant down 😆cause she's always on the ground once she starts producing fruits. I now just use one strong stake that I plant deep with the tomato sprouts when I plant in the spring, I've been more successful this way. I always see homesteaders using cattle panel but those can get pretty expensive. Cannot wait to have more room to grow thing so I could justify something like that lol.. But currently my growing space is small. But I too use pill bottles for seeds! it works great. I also keep chewing gum containers, the one with the top that pops off. They are great, and the top is like a flat surface i can just add a sticker with name and date of seeds and its easy to sort out.
@DonathfamilyhomesteadАй бұрын
We haven't noticed any problems yet but definitely a small rural community with honest people. We thought about cattle panels too but yes that could get pricey. Chewing gum containers are a great idea, I know the ones you're talking g about. Have a great week.

The Husqvarna 450 Rancher Chainsaw is only about ~11 pounds, and supposedly runs at a higher RPM in comparison with other standard chainsaws for likely gaining the higher 50cc energy output. Also has a more narrow kerf compared to other heavier similar ~15 pound 40-50cc chainsaws. Also, 20 inch bars versus 16 inch bars reduce the amount of bending over when cutting objects near the ground. Regardless, the 450 Rancher seems to be very popular and will be working with one likely soon. Only one con or downside I see, the lightweight and higher 50cc energy output, kickbacks will be a little more aggressive as there is less weight restricting the kickback.

P.s. the been there done that comment, I meant the wood chips, I received my chips from the electric Co. Too ,good source. But even when I spread it out thinly it cooked underneath yet moved on top, perhaps just moisture, but chickens produce moisture, I'll try a small amount in the corner, thank you😊agape

Commented 8982. If you put chicken droppings in the compost pile, they're stepping in it and eating food with their waste, I put their droppings in the garden for fertilizer, so my birds have clean food. It's worth the work for me , anyway, agape
@renewyckoff5452 ай бұрын
Been there done that. They get moldy. A white mucky mess unsafe for chickens, sand has been the easiest and cleanest way to go for me, adding pine here and there. We love our chickens, always learning, whatever works for you folks😊 agape love to you all ❤

I’ve hatched chicks both ways -- in an incubator and under a hen -- and I much prefer to let the hen hatch and raise the chicks. I isolate the hen and her chicks from the rest of the flock for a while. After a few weeks, I start letting them free range. The hen and chicks stay mostly to themselves, and the hen protects the chicks from other chickens if she perceives a threat. One of my hens hatched 5 chicks a couple of months ago, and a couple of weeks later I bought 5 Rhode Island Reds at Tractor Supply. When the hen lost interest in the chicks (they were about a month old), I put all 10 chicks together. I could tell a difference in the two sets of chicks, especially when foraging. I guess it sounds crazy, but the chicks raised with a hen seem to have their act together better than the ones raised in a brooder. However, I’m not chicken psychologist. The R. I. Reds have been playing catchup and are coming along nicely. Something else I do is when the hen decides she’s finished hatching, I put the remaining eggs in an incubator. Sometimes some of those eggs will hatch and I’ll give them to the hen.

Once a year, you clean out the run completely and make a compost pile. Make an area that is the compost area and fence it in if you want to, but let your chickens have access to it. Throw all the chicken poo from when you clean out the coop in that pile, all the food scraps, all the yard waste. Your chickens will make you a very nice compost. You don’t have to do anything but add to it now and then they do all the work.

Kind of a disappointing, and surprising, review. We have the smaller 24v and have been using it on larger than what you're using that one for. Have been doing it for about 3 yrs now and that thing has been abused. Still works like a dream. I was hoping the 40v could handle a bit more. Just an added note, but we are on 15 acres of fairly wooded property. Primarily oak, hickory and Cherry trees. We use it almost daily. The only time we have broke out the gas powered one has been on really large trees. That lil 24v has been amazing and cut way larger trees than it was designed for. Like i said, was hoping for the same on the 40v Your review was well done, please do not take it as anything against the quality of the video. It's just disappointment in the product you are reviewing.

@@Donathfamilyhomestead Yes add them when making bone stock.. it's a good source for collagen. We don't sell but butcher for ourselves. We will only do a few whole birds out of 50 or so and part the rest out. We use the skin from the thighs and breast from deboning, the necks, wing tips and frames for broth. Just canned 6 gallons of bone broth the other day. We always add several pairs of feet to it.

I have beaten my rancher hard , cutting for hours on end tank after tank Toss it around in the woods never changed the plug or air filter had it for about 10 years It fires right up and works great to this day with only a new chain oiler and starter engagement since they are made of plastic they break some times. Great chain saw I’m a big fan But may upgrade to the 550 or 545
