bruh I just googled TERA UE5 because I miss the game so much and bumped in here. Q_Q this looks amazing. I read that what you make will be a coop game, but I really would wish a studio contact you and give you resources to make this a real MMO UwU !! No game with action combat comes close to this game. 1st action combat target mmo and the only one that has done it flawlessly. I joined ur discord, looking forward to ur updates.

It's my hobby project, where I remake the game completely from scratch (with some modifications) in a new engine version. I won't be hosting any server, but people will be able to host for themselves and their friends, or play offline if they want to. PC (windows) only. :) Not a 'tease' specifically, just sharing progression as it's still heavily in-progress and will take a while. I knew the AI question would come up at some point xD (which is a valid point!) No I'm not using any generative AI, the most 'AI-like' thing I used was a denoiser algorithm on some of the textures to reduce the amount of visual artifacts. Most of why armors look more realistic compared to the original game has to do with tons of hand-drawn textures and masks for different materials on each armor piece. And ofc the lighting being fully dynamic (since modern hardware can deal with it, unlike back in TERA's days). :)

What would the endgame loop be like? Tera failed cause you just spam the same two dungeons until they release a new one every 6 months. Would open world content be endgame relevant? World PvP?

@@sergeoh735 No it's not. It does operate with the same type of server architecture tho. You'll be able to host it for yourself and invite anyone, so technically there's nothing stopping you from allowing as many people to connect as you want (like an mmo). But the goals are different to keep it realistic. Multiple dungeons + open world events, optimized for a smaller group of players (party) by default.

Oh maybe like survival games that host servers with 100 ppl. I see. Yah doesn't need to be a mmo, just ppl to do content with.

@@sergeoh735 Yeah like that :) I won't be hosting any servers, if people do that, you'll be able to join them, or you can pull up your own and your friends can join you. Also works in singleplayer in offline mode. :) The key point is to make it fun with a few friends, and to make the open-world relevant again.

Yeah same. I don't claim release Tera to be perfect either (probably nostalgia makes it look better than it actually was), but what it became was 10 times worse in the end. We gotta preserve the classic experience where possible :)

@@GonzalezS777 It's basically a hobby project of mine, where I recreate (a smaller scope version of) the game, from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 (with upgraded graphics and features), that you'll be able to play offline as single-player, or invite your friends to play online. Not an MMORPG (impossible alone), more like a coop/singleplayer game you can play with your friend group. If interested, feel free to join the discord server in the description, I occasionally post updates (or gameplay testing) there, and I'm always super happy to hear feedback and ideas for potential improvements over the original game :)

Not sure how I didn't see this before (sorry). It's still multiple months from having a playable first version, but it's definitely going to be "an actual thing". Just keep in mind that the scope is smaller than the original game, so that it's actually possible for one person to finish it at some point. :)

It is indeed my passion project, to create something that BHS never spent the money to create. The game was officially killed 2 years ago, that's not going to change.

@@Grimstrike If you really planning to make this as an actual game, then I would suggest to contact current rights holders, to avoid legal issues or project termination. There is a slight chance they would actually let you operate under some agreement. Some older games (in form of a private servers) do run like this.

Very true, the original artworks are indeed incredibly cool! Lots of the textures/masks had to be redrawn tho so this is not exactly how you'd see them in the original game, especially to bring out the metallic details on costumes. But I think it's worth the effort :)

Grimstrike, you were one of the most recognizable names in Tera for my guildmates and me (alongside Pinkiepie [obviously] and Chickensalad [if anyone remembers him and his gunner guides/gameplay]). I miss this game SO MUCH and seeing an upload from you is awesome. This looks amazing and I don't know what exactly this means for the future of Tera fan projects, but I'm excited to see more! This game is by far the thing I've put the most time/investment into and it feels so terrible that it's gone... any preservation efforts or recreations are always appreciated :') Thanks for the work you do!! (also for anyone in the comments: I know private servers exist and I've played on a few of them, but honestly the thing I miss most about Tera is logging on to a healer alt and queuing into high IL dungeons and carrying random people who have no idea what the dungeon mechanics are, which is an experience you can't recreate on private servers lol....)

Lovely thank you :) It's clear that the artists put tons of effort and love into creating those assets and environments, but it sadly doesn't always come through because of the engine and the necessary optimizations. With the new tech, I'm hoping those details would be more visible and highlighted. If you got any suggestions or ideas, I'm always super happy to hear them on discord, cheers :)
