@@GetFitwithDogs nice my Akita male 6 years old, with me a baby but when in guard mode or hunting instinct kick in it’s serious, he knew right/ left on his own, answers yes with left ear, no right ear and like billy Jean, Akitas are more spiritual than most, they don’t act like dogs

Omg! My Yorkie and I do the same thing. She gives me that look of, “I want something” and I go thru the list of questions we have “Do you wonna _____?” “Do you need help?”(she gets her treat balls stuck sometimes) “Are you hungry/thirsty?” And which one she dances around to is the one she wants! I couldn’t ask for a better “accidental training” than The Questions 😊😊

@@GetFitwithDogs Same here. My dog, Chloe, is 9, but I’ve only had her for just over 2yrs. My friend’s mother-in-law passed away and I was able to take her Yorkie. All I knew was her feeding times and that she was trained for an invisible fence. I live in a complex of townhomes and no yard, so we take walks. She taught herself how to wiggle her head thru the harness too. Since I didn’t know what ‘I’m gonna stare at you with excitement’ meant, I started asking her questions, and here we are 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😊😊

I have another short where you hear my male bark a lot. He is a big barker. This growl was a very uncharacteristic response from him, which I tend to attribute to the weird behavior of the "intruder". However, the Akita breed themselves tend not to be big barkers unless they really feel something is off, so it is true that the bark is less prevalent with the Akita. Having said that, few people are going to be ballsy enough to enter a house when confronted by a 110+ lbs dog. And Akitas don't tend to be friendly to strangers either, so you'd need a REALLY ballsy intruder to try to get passed a giant mean dog.

Yuki, the female and one closest to the camera, has the prey drive but she is on the 30 foot leash. She knows she can't go chase after anything, but she wanted to. Kinjo, my male, doesn't have the hyper prey drive that Yuki does. His energy always goes into keeping a lookout and warning if anything is coming.

My next video is going to be a dog profile. I'm doing a profile of my boy, and then other dogs as well. One of the things I am going to do is compare each dog to a human personality that matches them. Kinjo's is Walt Kowalski from Gran Torino. It's a damn near perfect human representation of him. 🤣 To his chosen person (me) he is amazing. Just as Walt was loving and respectful of his wife. To others, Kinjo is like Walt is. Very easily bothered, grumpy, unwelcoming, and set in his ways. Despite this, he is very protective of those in his family, even if they annoy him half of the time, and he will fight for them. Kinjo is Walt Kowalski. 😂

Hello! You may have just got thr exception and found a friendly Akita. It happens with all dog breeds. Sometimes people get a very protective Labrador. It just happens. This isn't to say that he won't protect you. That's hard to know until a dog is in that situation. Plus, size alone may deter someone up to no good.

Sorry, maybe I didn't understand? Jack Russell put the Akita in its place? Are you serious? My male dog killed a jack in two minutes. He was walking without a leash and ran up with aggression. We didn't have time to do anything further. There are no dangerous dogs for Akitas. I have four American Akitas. I take turns walking with them. When I go out, all the dogs in the village hide.

My Akita boy was the best guard dog I ever had simply because he was calm. If he was barking you really knew something was up and with one word he would leave whatever was going on and would be back behind me. Once I woke up in the middle of the night with Sashi going off (Musashi) I ran upstairs to ground level to see what was going and there he was pinning this policeman to his car. He didn't attack he just held them there, every time they moved he would jump in front and bark and then look at me as if asking what he should do? We were in the country and the cops had lost their way. I told him to leave it and he was back behind me straightaway. It was almost like he didn't want to be acting this way but knew it was his job. The pinned cop said 'wow! good guard dog'. I miss him every day. Such a lovely boy.

He stared people down. My Female was hard to control until I had to give her an emergency hysterectomy. After that she was well behaved.

Similar, but there are some differences. The Akita Inu tends to be a bit more energetic, playful, and higher prey drive. A bit less serious. All dogs have their own personalities though, so it still will depend upon the individual dog a bit.

Again, a very well done discussion of the pros of American Akita ownership. My # 1 is the A List movie star looks with what is a relatively robust, healthy and long-lived giant breed dog that is absolutely an instant kick-ass war dog that will take down intruders with alacrity. Until you see them toggle into action and transition instantly from 0 to 120 mph in a second, it is hard to explain and comprehend the total shock and awe of these magnificent dogs. Akitas are not really very hard to socialize to tolerate people and well behaved children, but training for off leash command and control around wildlife and other dogs is something altogether different with an Akita or a Chow Chow. These are not dogs that are known for tolerating strange animals or any trespass on their territory and that trait is almost impossible to train out of a dog. All you can do is dial down the aggression a few notches. But, that trait is why these are the best dogs to take with you into the wilderness or into a rough urban environment such a city park at night. These dogs have a fearsome reputation that is well deserved and anyone who has familiarity with the reputation of the breed will not trifle with one of these dogs, let alone two or three. These dogs are like NFL linebackers - fast and powerful and hard hitting yet incredibly agile and athletic and they have huge teeth that are extremely sharp backed up by a vise-like bite strength that is proportional to the size of their anvil shaped bear-like heads. Perhaps the most endearing trait these dogs have is their personality which consists of affection and talking. Many of these dogs sound like a moose and cow when they are happy and excited. They will bellow and howl with delight and jump up and put their paws on your shoulders when you come home. I do agree that these are like big cats that require play but are exceptionally clean and odorless (compared to a hound dog for example) and who as you say reserve their affection for their people. Owning an Akita is like living with an intelligent sentient roommate that has his or her own mind and agenda. They will let you know what they want from a floor fan needing to turned on to a meal to a walk to affection to play. They are very interactive much like a very large cat and highly intelligent like a cat. Yet they will sleep next to you for hours and not need constant attention like many small dog breeds. That said, these dogs are so big and powerful, that you have to be a fairly healthy, robust and young to manage 1 or 2 of these dogs as they can be a handful and by that I mean, they can literally drag you across the street if you don't maintain command and control and situational awareness. You always have to maintain social distance from other dogs as you just never really know how these dogs will react to a strange dog so as far as meeting other people, this is true so long as the other person does not have a dog with them. If they do, the conversation will usually be held at a distance (across the street) in most situations.

Pretty much when you want to own a strong guard dog breed, you Must be the Leader! Not a patsy obtuse weakling that thinks they are just fury cute bear dogs. Go get a cuddly Goldendoodle. These dogs demand a fearless leader like they are. Proper training and socialization is a must for dog breeds like the Akita. The openess of a 1 acre plus lot is a must to keep them at their happiest. They are also velcro dogs and can be incredibly protective of their family. The ultimate in protective insticts naturally inbreaded in their DNA.

For all Akita owners out there, we need to educate the public that the Akita is not for everybody.
