Good to know...👍. Now can you explain why Henry 22s jam up when you go slow with the lever...
@a2ztacticalacademy
@a2ztacticalacademy 4 күн бұрын
Lol. That's a mystery... in all seriousness. The technology for a Henry rifle is 140 years old. Yes. There have been some improvements to it, but for the most part, it relies on a deliberate actuation of the lever. All the way out and all the way in. Slow and very fast cycling will always be questionable as to the reliability of the feed and eject. You've given me an idea for another video. I will work on the common problems of Henry rifles and why they happen. Thank you

This is NOT how you do a scientific drop test. Your test isn't repetable because you have no test fixture. Your true height of drop varies from drop to drop. You are not controlling the orientation of the gun during impact, so if that is important in the result you can't repeat that either. You are not dropping it on a solid surface, but rather on a plate on bare ground. You need to build a fixture that holds the gun in a particular orientation as it drops, and which allows you to accurately repeat the height of drop. You need to drop it on a concrete floor. Hilton Yam did exactly this more than a decade ago when drop testing Series 70 1911s. While this is entertaining, it is of limited actual value.
@a2ztacticalacademy
@a2ztacticalacademy 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment, while I agree this test does not utilize the entire scientific method of testing a theory, it wasn't the intent of the empirical test I performed. I was merely testing if the mass of the firing pin would cause forward motion by inertia when the gun was dropped on the muzzle. sort of trying to recreate the issue with the RSO in NY that perished when a Shadow 2 was dropped from the holster on the muzzle. This clearly was much higher than the height of the holster, and while I can't guarantee it was exactly at the same height every time I can say it was 6 ft or more. it also wasn't a test to see which orientation would cause internal component failure and make it fire (like breaking a sear or something like that) this is my personal firearm and was not willing to damage it more than what I did on this drop test. When my channel grows to the point where I get resources to pay for fixture fabrication, and super slow motion cameras I would repeat the test. Cheers!

I have an armory craft in the cz shadow in this video and just ordered the cajun works SAO for another pistol (for which I'll do the full installation video later) all of them are virtually identical since the SAO has to meet certain geometry to work. The overtravel and reset screws are a necessity since all pistols are slightly different for reset and hanmer drop. I'd say the differences would be external and not functional. Things like slightly curved ends, purely flat, rounded edges, esqueletonized, etc.. but the pivot points and connection to the trigger bar have to be the same.

Aside from dropping on an actual hard/concrete surface with no padding, the way a Shadow 2 or Shadow 1 will discharge when dropped is if the hammer is lowered on a chambered round...a la the starting condition for Production Class in USPSA, and sadly how a round went off and killed a safety officer in one instance. Not by dropping on the muzzle, although one would think it would since like Series 70 1911's there is no firing pin block/safety. But the firing pin rear plunger is depressed a bit when the hammer is lowered, and in some instances (like when an extended firing pin is installed in a competition gun) can even be resting on the round's primer itself. So it wouldn't take much of an impact on the hammer to set that primer off, especially if it's a softer one. This could have been addressed by allowing the gun to start with the hammer in the partial-cock notch, such as with the SP-01 Tactical models with a decocker, but USPSA refused to change the rules to allow that (AFAIK at the time of this post). Starting the stage with the hammer cocked & locked also avoids this, but it takes the gun out of production class and affects scoring.
@a2ztacticalacademy
@a2ztacticalacademy 15 күн бұрын
@Fugettaboutit that's been my beef about uspsa rules that do not allow hammer cocked with safety on or partial cocked hammer if the gun has a safety or decocker... while at the same time, you can go with a striker fired gun fully ready and no one says anything about that. I think its a stupid rule, and they should allow condition 3 if the gun has a safety (1911 style) but somehow they think that da/sa guns are an unfair advantage or unsafe to be carried cocked and locked...
@Fugettaboutit
@Fugettaboutit 15 күн бұрын
@@a2ztacticalacademy They'l allow a pistol to start with hammer partially-cocked if the pistol has a deecocker that lowers it to that position, like the CZ's with a decocker or like a Beretta. The regular CZ-75B and SP-01 that only have manual safety have to have hammer fully lowered at start for production class. Not really a safety issue since those models have internal firing pin block. But for guns like the Shadow that don't, you get this. I guess they didn't want to change rules just for certain pistols and open up what hey saw as a slippery slope...even though they already allow guns that decock to that position as legal starting condition from the SAME MANUFACTURER and same construction. As if it's an unfair mechanical advantage of a shorter first DA trigger pull in one gun but not the other with the same shorter pull.

Some good tips, how do you improve your reaction time to the beep to start your draw? This is where I’m losing some valuable time. Thanks
@a2ztacticalacademy
@a2ztacticalacademy 21 күн бұрын
@_Mr.Mayhem_ If your only problem is losing time between the end of the beep and the beginning of the draw, I'd just do a lot of video of self with the beep and just reacting (touching, or gripping) the gun but not the draw. You have to be aggressive with it and develop the twitch fiber muscles, which is what will get you there. You're giving me a good idea for a next video about that.
@_Mr.Mayhem_

Gotcha, my draw is clean without any extra movement and I’m currently stuck at 1.12-1.18sec. When I watch my slow mo I’m losing time on the reaction to get into sub 1…. I will work on just my grab with a par timer of 0.3sec. Thank you for the advice Alberto and I appreciate the fast reply
@a2ztacticalacademy
@a2ztacticalacademy 21 күн бұрын
@_Mr.Mayhem_ I hope you get there. I know 1.12 consistent is very commendable and you are above 80 pct or daily carriers but i do think you should be able to get 0.7 to 0.8 consistently, so when you're under stress you can hit the 1.0 or 1.1 without even sweating it. (Call that excess of ability). On my best day, warmed up, and at 7 yards, if i really push it, I can get down to 0.7.. but i am confident i can get 1.0 and feels "slower"
@_Mr.Mayhem_
@_Mr.Mayhem_ 20 күн бұрын
@a2ztacticalacademy I appreciate the kind words. And I agree with being 1 sec understress to perform at 1 sec in a life threatening situation. I started on this sub 1 sec journey just at the beginning of the month 7/6 and I was at 1.54 sec on my best day. I dry fire 4xs a week and live fire 1x a week. I’ve seen drastic improvement in my draw and reloads. As you mentioned in your video it’s the fine adjustments that will get me to sub 1. I’m close, just need to get those twitch muscles fired up so I can have that muscle memory. Now that I can consistently hit 1.12sec I can do 1.54 without even trying and that used to be my best time just a few weeks ago. As you get faster your “slow times” are effortless. I’ll keep you posted on the progress thanks again Alberto.

Ended the session there nothing else. Worked on it again today and was able to pull the gun from the holster in the 0.3. Which was a noticeable improvement. So I went for the full draw and was able to hit 1.02-1.10 consistently. Changed my ride height b/c I kept snagging on pants now for some reason. Tried it again and was able to hit 0.95, 0.93 & 1.0 today for the first time. WOW! Truly a wow moment when I saw the times…

I found some of the screws loose right out of the box. I've learned to check all of the screws often after shooting. I hesitate to use a thread locker since I usually take her apart after use. One of the things that disappointed me was the sharp edges on the receiver where the barrel and mag tube thread in. A few other pieces like the hammer and the opening in the mag tube also have sharp edges. I don't think that the buttstock wood is mated to the receiver very well and my handguard needed a thin wood veneer shim to take up a slight movement where it meets the receiver. Now so I don't sound too whiny about this I have several Henry Big Boys and all but one are damn near perfect. I do have to tighten the screws though. I think that Henry is so swamped with demand that they are starting to overlook some of the quality control that used to be what they were known for. Henry Company if you read these comments pay attention. I recently purchased a Miroku Winchester model 92 that is made in Japan. The fit and finish are perfection and the craftsmanship that is so very obvious on this rifle is better than anything I've seen in a long time. I'm old so that is a long time. I love the fact that Henry is made in the U.S. of A. but I'd be willing to pay a little more for perfection and not something that seems to lack concerns for quality.

I don't use lock tite for the same reason. These rifles do require retightening screws sonewhat frequently. On the quality issues, most of these are hand fitted, and i guess aome employees care more than others. I've had Springfield pistols that were flawless and some that didn't work at all out of the box. Sign of the times, i guess. Thx for leaving your comment. Oh, and just wanted to point out that you can NOT swap between LEM and DA/SA on the P30 or P2000 series. The decocker is in the back of the pistol and there is no hole in the slide for the decocker. Uspsa logic : can’t use a cocked and locked hammer gun with 2lb trigger in CO/prod Also uspsa logic: sure you can use a fully cocked striker gun with NO safety and 2lb trigger in CO/prod. Because you can’t see the striker fully cocked like a hammer makes it magically safe Oh and another: uspsa: we obey all fundamental gun safety rules Also uspsa: you MUST pull the trigger when you don’t intend to shoot (to fully lower the hammer on an extended firing pin). By the way a hammer down shadow 2 with extended firing pin killed a RSO in New York a few years back when it was dropped by a competitor holstering after make ready . The obvious solution is as you say to require you to use the safety if the pistol has one or the decocker if the pistol has one. This would be JUST LIKE the holster retention device rule (if it has one you must use it). Also combined with a “you cannot remove any safety device off a gun as it comes from the factory (so no removing firing pin blocks or grip safeties) You can then either combine CO and LO or make CO 15rds just like production is now so it is essentially production optics and gives real space between CO and LO.
