As a blade maker myself I definitely believe in keeping the art alive. Though as an American I focus mostly on arms from America & Europe. I however would like to try my hand at SE Asian blades one day.

Just an hour drive from Kalibo is the Municipality of Libacao. It is the birthplace of FMA Historian Guru Dan Inosanto's father, Sebastian ( Lolo Baste) who early in his life migrated to California to work in plantations. Sebastian Inosanto was later recognized there for his contribution as one of the organizers to establish the first labor union which represented the poorly compensated Filipino and Mexican farm laborers. .

WTF are you doing; you can do better than that; you just go WAY inside w/ a K & start power-slicing any target of opportunity, esp, tendons, big muscles, disabling, cuts can produce LONG circular wounds, just go blasting all over the opp; don't go for the legs--keep him standing, a much easier target to carve the hell out of; take out an eye or 2; if properly designed, K should have a back-edge allowing a hammer-like cut, e.g., to upper neck, a few shots could sever spinal cord; can also 'hammer' many other targets

I love this, they train the movement so when the attack is performed the one thing your gonna go back to if your knocked off your medium is the movement you've been practicing. So sick.
@Tyler_Lalonde-10 жыл бұрын
Why don't you train more realistic?
@ciprox10 жыл бұрын
We tried training more realistic, and we still do that from time to time, but we noticed that we started getting short on training partners. :)
@Tyler_Lalonde-10 жыл бұрын
Ciprian Ortan I'm sorry but that's not really funny. I mean have him really swing at you. Not just put his arm out there for you to do what ever you want. Because I don't how compliant an attacker will be and I doubt that he would be that complaint.
@ciprox10 жыл бұрын
An attacker will not be so compliant. But an attacker will be compliant after first cuts on forearms or in other places. Most of the times the first cut is on the forearm and the kill shot is at the 2nd,3rd cut. If I move faster or I swing faster, Ray will just move and cut me faster. In this video you have kerambit techniques, kill shots, fast entries, hand switching...etc, in free flow. This was the point of the video. Yes, training should be realistic. For me what you said about how we train it is funny because you made the assumption that you know how we train. You don't. Thanks for the advise, I appreciate it, but we are already doing it.
@Tyler_Lalonde-10 жыл бұрын
Ciprian Ortan so you're the one with out a weapon and your attacking. Hmm seems like a bad idea lol. Of course if you do anything he will try and cut you. But now I'm confused of why he needed the knife? If you don't have one and don't pose a threat.
@ciprox10 жыл бұрын
Tyler Lalonde :) You have to learn how to use the tools. It is part of kali to learn what a weapon can do before you can start thinking of how to defend against its attacks. Basically here doing this type of free flow drill you learn to adapt to different contexts, learn to use the tool to create openings, body control and manipulation on the attacker and cuts. The same can be done if you think that the kerambit you are using does not have an edge and can be used as an impact weapon. This type of exercise deals with that also...move the hands to get to the head, do some guntings and so on, use it as a self defense tool if you want. Right now it is not important if I have a weapon or not. That can be another exercise.
