You are correct that it's the middle classes that are going to get absolutely rinsed, not the super wealthy. Instead of investing in social housing, the UK government blames 2nd home owners and landlords, scapegoating them for the housing crisis. 2nd homes are usually just that - different from an investment portfolio - and will provide a retirement for many people who don't have any retirement on the horizon. Yes, sometimes they are also rented out to maintain that investment. And yet the gov still refuses to introduce a wealth tax on the super wealthy. Both the green party and workers party of GB put forward a threshold of £10million, which I think is a reasonable level to allow the working/middle classes to rise, while redistributing wealth back into society fairly. Whether you agree or not with their other policies doesn't matter - this one is valid. It's the working/middle classes that create economic growth, not multimillionaires taking out loans against their shares to fund their lifestyles rather than funding society. So many normal people are aware, discuss and find agreement on this subject across the political spectrum (across the globe) and yet it's NEVER on the agenda with the MSM or politicians to have a thorough, robust and honest conversation about it, as they are all in their pockets. It's always leveraged that if you are in the middle, with some wealth but not tons, you should expect it all to be taken from you if there is ANY move towards taxing the multi-millionaires and billionaires - packaged as socialism, when in fact it's simply about addressing a fair balance between wealth creation and public funds. Middle class Britain didn't notice this wealth transfer back in the days it didn't affect them too severely. Now it's realising it was fast asleep when the grift was put in motion and can't escape the trap. We need a complete overhaul of the system, top to bottom. THAT'S the conversation that's needed, not whining about boats (which would be resolved with a properly functioning system,geared towards benefitting society not the super wealthy alone. Benefitting both are spokes in the same wheel, but too many spokes are broke under the current rigging.

Glad you said this about civil servants been thinking the same myself very recently. Just feel that it really doesn't matter whom we vote for anymore they just can't be trusted, we're being used as cash cows and our living standards are being eroded away by the politicians of whichever colour you choose.
