Your videos are really helpful when making a choice of where to live in this area. We just moved to Georgetown and unfortunately we’ve had multiple instances of aggressive and vulgar homeless people. We are familiar with homeless in NYC and San Francisco, but maybe we’ve just been unlucky with them saying indecent things to our young girls and bothering us. Is this a Georgetown thing? Is this one of the reasons people move out to the suburbs or Glover Park? Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Mike! Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I'm in and out of Georgetown a lot but I have never encountered this. I can recall a few years ago there being someone out front of the CVS at 28th and M who would yell some nasty things, but I haven't experienced this at all in the rest of Georgetown. Where is this happening? I'm wondering if some of what you are experiencing is coming from any construction workers? I live in Glover Park. There's actually a shelter in Glover Park so there's a fair share of homeless who are on the streets there too.

Sounds like Chevy Chase could use some much-needed "cultural enrichment". How about the home owners opening their hearts and homes to migrants...? Surly the citizens in the liberal DC suburbs would welcome with open arms their fellow members of the human race from Somalia, Haiti, Venezuela, etc.. Some of these homes even have yard signs that state "No Human Is Illegal".

My wife and I moved to Virginia from Ohio a year ago. My uninitiated bias was that Maryland would be preferable. I had worked with people from Chevy Chase, and I have relatives there and Silver Spring. I also had a variety of other incomplete/not fully explored notions which pointed me toward Maryland. However, when we moved, we moved quickly to make what was becoming extremely complex, a bit easier...and our time horizon was shrinking. We found a convenient place in Northern Virginia. We enjoyed the talk about Maryland drivers and took it in the spirit of our bias against Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky...etc. Well, it's not like that. From our experience, the Maryland drivers are...crazy. All that Ms. Terzis says is true. Our view is that Virginia is a far better experience than Maryland. I would advise anyone to choose NVa. over Maryland. I can't imagine how much I'd have to dislike someone to allow myself to advise Maryland. To us, it isn't close.

Hahaha. Amazing. The driving situation is no joke. I have plenty of dashcam footage to prove it! Four-way stops mean nothing to Marylanders.

To understand McLean Vs. Langley, you have to look at the FCPS Boundary maps. Although they aren't far from each other, Langley has a long wedge shaped boundary out to the western edge of Great Falls. It always had a slightly more affluent student body. It used to be a lot whiter, too, but I doubt that's true anymore as a lot of the "new money" buying huge McMansions in GF are Asian or Middle Eastern. The sort of people who used to buy in GF now buy in Loudoun County or maybe Clifton.

Totally agree. I really did this video to illustrate why online information sources really have to be scrutinized. There's so much AI writing articles now and when you pick it apart it's nonsense. I said this at the end of the video too - the fact they didn't mention some other obvious neighborhoods is insane. I'm a big fan of Barcroft myself, and I think Columbia Pike is drastically underrated.

My honest answer for most people relocating to the DMV is, if you are asking whether your new salary will be enough then you probably should look outside of the capital beltway (unless you want to risk it in Prince George's county). There may be hidden gems out there, but if you are relocating you are probably not going to want to renovate. Contractors are also pretty expensive unless you are handy. If you are relocating for a job here, then my guess is that you are definitely commuting. Otherwise you would have just worked remotely. Do yourself a favor and try to find something accessible to both VRE/Metro or MARC/Metro - you are going to want options and not rely on a single public transportation source. Some recommendations on neighborhoods: - (MD): look at the neighborhoods between route 29 and 355 just south of route 200. - (MD): Howard county has been booming, but it's far and you have no reliable public transit. - (VA): look at the neighborhoods along route 286 south of route 66. - (VA): you can also look along 95 - south of Springfield - but that 95 traffic is just horrible. - (VA): you can also look near the Dulles airport (but unless you work outside of DC on the West side, it's still kind of far) General rule of thumb (yes, there are exceptions): - neighborhoods along the Potomac river on the western side of DC is expensive. Both the MD and VA side. This becomes less of an issue as you move outside of the beltway. - neighborhoods that border East DC from the north corner to the south corner can be a bit sketchy. - if you absolutely HATE public transportation, take a look at the carpooling system. I only know about the one in VA; not sure if MD has one also. Good luck to you and welcome to the DMV!

Correction: MD has the highest Taxes when you consider both the state of MD can tax you, as well as the county, and the city. DC is actually kind of in the middle. VA is actually the lowest. But DC has lower real estate taxes than MD and VA for housing, and no personal property tax (which VA has). The Washington Post did an analysis on this and its MD>DC>VA in terms of taxation. Remember income taxes are not the only way they hit you with taxes around here.

Great neighborhood to grow up in. Blue-collar, working class. Neighbors were friendly and spent time together. The wealthy have ruined it. 7 bedroom houses on these 1/4 acre lots are a joke. Now it is a bunch of rich, snobby people living there.
@DCRealEstateMama

I get it, it's really hard to see such drastic change in a neighborhood where you grew up. I have the same issue when I go back to my home state of Connecticut. I don't recognize it, and the people there are not like they were when I was growing up there. Even for people who still own their houses or inherited from their parents / families, to see such change around them is probably really difficult. Pimmit Hills is always involved in debate. Location is fantastic with Tyson's what it is now. Tyson's used to be a quieter area a generation ago.

@@DCRealEstateMama The neighborhood was a little rough in the 1970s, especially with the Pagan motorcycle club occupying a house on Pimmit Drive, but it became a thriving neighborhood in the 80s. I know some of the original houses are getting rough as I performed home inspections on a few, but they are worth renovating.

You didn't mention that the famous African Restaurant. Forgot the name. It's the best African American restaurant in DC. It is located at the beginning of the Georgetown from Dupont Circle. Maybe 8th Street? The food is absolutely unique and delicious. No utensils provided. Use thin pancakes to wrap the food. I am not from DC. I just visited there as a tourist. Recommended by a friend of mine who worked as a concierger in Marriot hotel in DC.
