Awesome vid. I also have that digitrax controller. Have dcc in ho. And no room for it. Hopefully I can start building my 2 story this yr. Which I've built a room just for my trains. Building a small 3x3 n scale for me and youngest to play with. He wants mining layout. Going to farmington hills train show this wknd. Leaving tonight. Show is for 21st and 22nd of Jan. Doing videos of it. You video helped me. So now I can use the knowledge tomorrow. Keep it up bro.

Beware the layout has 2 shorts. The first short is the loop around the mountain. The second is the station line. Anytime you reverse direction you create a short. He must have used joint insulators on these two lines. He never goes threw either these lines.

Is the track plan (layout) available online? I’m looking for a similar plan to connect to a larger train layout.

Actually I really like what you have done. I wish I had more skills in building my own 4x8 n scale in my garage, but I'm taking everything super slow and trying to research each area (track design, wiring, scenery building, structures, lighting, etc etc) before I jump in. I've been at it 5 months now, finally ballasted my track (Kato) and am slowly building and painting structures. This n scale is all new to me. What really surprised me with the C/M Junction is how you implemented DCC with just that one controller and connection to the tracks. Amazing, and I'd like to here more about it. Keep up the good work.

I have a 4x8 rolling table just ready to start my N Scale layout. I absolutely LOVE the Colleywood / Maryville Junction. I am a retired grandfather with a LOT of time on my hands and would really like to build this layout. Would it be possible for you to send me the track plan? Email, here, something? Thanks Steve. Just found your video after looking for n scale layouts on youtube and I stopped right there because I've seen enough layout plans and finally found what I'm looking for!

A very nice video and layout. I have plans to expand my own HO scale layout and create a mountain railroad and town, though I'll likely be modeling more of the 1940s-50s steam era.

That's about a 4% grade, a little less. Cajon pass, one of the steepest freight passes in California is a 2% grade for real world reference. Light rail commuters will hit 4 or 5% in cities pretty commonly. 2 or 3 spots I can think of in Sacramento have light rail go over the street from being at grade with the road, all those are 5 percent. Although the freightlines next to them get traditional crossings.

The Saluda Mountain grade in NC is 4% and the steepest in the US for class 1railroads.

Good effort on the layout. I AM curious though why you didn't do a modular section "around the wall" C-shaped style layout since you can only stand in the middle of the room? Construction in sections in garage or other area then carry up to the attic.

This is an amazing layout! There's no way you can do this with HO gauge. NO WAY! I love the ability to create a lot of movement on the layout. Nobody can say this is a boring around and back again layout. I've been going back and forth between N and HO. I think I made up my mind. Great job creating something very special. I hope I can make something as nice.

My story is a lot like yours except I’m the grandfather with grandchildren. Mine 4x8 is DC with 10 blocks with a nice inventory of DC engines and 100 rolling stock of every variety. I want to resurrect it! In converting to run both DC and some new DCC equipment, I will be using a few more DCC power connections. I would very much like to ask you: 1. Would you show your engine inventory by brand and DCC capability (sounds lights, other features), 2. How you decided on which DCC controller (Digitec vs NEC) 3. Where do you buy your engines (a plug for suppliers you prefer. Thank you. Tom Tenbrunsel

Cool update! Improvements on your snowy Wintergreen Junction have been coming right along. What's been happening with your Colleywood/Maryville Junction layout? Quite awhile has passed since you've posted a new video about Colleywood/Maryville Junction. Take care, and stay safe and healthy (i.e., Covid-free). Merry Christmas! 🎄 🎅 -from Tom Pilling

Thanks Biggame, appreciate your praise, though more work is needed on the "light leaks" from the buildings ... the glue was barely dry on some of them at the time I needed to film this to get it out for the holidays. More to come on Colleywood/Maryville Junction this spring. During this Covid outbreak, I've made good use of my time adding lighting to the entire layout ... video coming up!

This was a fantastic series, very creative, beautifully produced, and of course the narration was outstanding. You could probably work full time producing and narrating videos for other model railroaders. Your elegy to the end of passenger rail, as the old UP passenger cars were towed away in the "funeral train", was actually moving. The passage of the day theme in the series, with the background music, reminded me of The Moody Blues concept album "Days of Future Past." I hope you're still around doing this or something similar.
