Make the setup in Postmand, you can then get Postmand to create a javascript example for you.

Hi Ryan! I'm from Brazil and a couple years back i lived in dublin, near the guiness factory, used to work at temple bar area, loved the city, hated the weather hahahaha I'm also a software engineer, and plan to come back to ireland/europe to work in the future. Loved the video. Made me remember the city and connect with my actual job.

Very helpful video. One question: for the name of the databse in the yml file, do we have to use 'productDb' or can we give it whatever name we want?

How are we not using any dockerfile?
@ryanhill1012 жыл бұрын
By using images on docker hub and other places we only need a docker image no docker file required from us. Under the hood it's still a docker file but that information in hidden from us to make things easier. It's just an extra layer of abstraction.

Hey tnx for the video, but there is sth that i don't get it and wanna bang my head to the wall :d Docker suppose to do these processes and setup server and DB! But you create a docker image then again manually you add server and create DB? what's the point then? I want to have a docker, so every1 in every OS and machine, without any knowledge of psql, simply run the docker and have server and DB ready. Am I missing a point here or this is not quite right?
@ryanhill1012 жыл бұрын
Hi, so when you say set up a server do you mean a database server or a base server? Docker can't set up a base server you would need a server that has an operating system like linux, windows etc or if you're running docker on a laptop it will use that operating system. Docker will set up the database server and set up a database and everything you need to connect to a database once it has a base server/operating system. If you look at my .yml file I created things like the name of the database and a password these are optional by default docker will create these I was trying to show that that you can create your own details. This page might be helpful to know more about default and optional parameters. hub.docker.com/_/postgres. You will need to create a docker Image once somewhere this can be on your local machine or on a random server once you create a image this can be used on many other machines. *** For your example *** From your given problem it sounds like you should create a docker image and then anyone that needs that database can use that docker image you created by running docker-compose up on their machine and they will have a database. I hope I got the question right feel free to ask more if I missed anything.

the docker container allows me to login without entering a password even if I've specified it in the docker compose file before (- POSTGRES_PASSWORD=1234Hallo). Do you have any idea how to fix this problem? Thank you in advance!
@ryanhill1012 жыл бұрын
Hi, you’re correct you will be able to login to the docket container without a password this password is the password that you will use to get into a database using a tool like pgadmin.
