The Type 055 they say is a Cruiser, to show the aggression of the Chinese in the Pacific. In fact, today's classes of ships from Corvette, Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser have drifted away from the basic concept. Today's warships are manufactured with flexible sizes, current and future frigates and destroyers are much larger than concept, equipped with extremely powerful firepower, play a flexible role, multi-tasking and still retaining its inherent roles. So if you just look at the designations on paper, or on the general classification of Americans, there are many cruisers in the world, or frigates that are also classified as destroyers lol So it can't be said that "this ship is basically in that class,..." And remember, Americans categorize ships according to their politics, allies or enemies. Like the Zumwalt they still call it the Destroyer.

​@@陈文辉-u5zAs in my country, we are using Frigate Gepard 3.9 ships of project 11661, it was originally Corvette but the version we used was greatly upgraded, becoming Frigate, but equipped with firepower beyond more than a frigate, almost as big as a destroyer. It depends on the defense purpose, the strategy of that country, the position they have to defend, fight. Or even the new Russian Frigate Admiral Gorshkov, an extremely sharp knife that rivals a destroyer when looking at its equipment. But can't say it belongs to the destroyer class.
