It must be nice to have a home parkrun like Congleton. I’m excited about Bushy parkrun with maybe 1500+ finishers.
@stephenlee1643Ай бұрын
Ah, I remember Congleton, as in 2013 I was trying at various runs to do exactly 20mins as easy as possible, and I’d had three at 20.12 and a 20.02, but got it here! It was difficult because you just don’t know the exact length of a new course, as the garmin can be inaccurate. About three months after Congleton I did Bushy and my watch ticked over 5k at 18.xx, but…there was still the last section after the famous tree to do (no longer ran on the current course), so was a low 19.
@runparkrunwithmeАй бұрын
Im never sure how close I am to the finish and when to push on a new course. So I took a piece of chalk and marked the course around 300m before the finish. But after everyone had run across it the chalk marks had gone. I’m so close to getting back under 20. Just need that extra bit of luck.
@garthcox4307Ай бұрын
Seeing the parkwalker down reminded me of a walsall parkrun last summer when I finished the first lap and someone was on the ground having had a heart attack. Help was already there and they made a full recovery but they cut the event short so the ambulance could get in OK. I ran 2.5 miles so crossed the line in the shortest time ever but obviously they gave everyone 59.59. That will always be my fastest and slowest parkrun ever and at the same event!
@runparkrunwithmeАй бұрын
I cut that bit out of the video. Although it’s never nice to see someone injured. Others were with the park walker and I thought my best option was to let the volunteers know at the finish which was only 200m away. (I have no medical training) I asked after and was told they were fine, which is the best news.

@@runparkrunwithme I'm 66 and usually do my local parkrun Lands End in 22 something. I had a couple of years out of action in 2021/22 with Achilles/plantar problem so am gradually trying to build up towards where I used to be. I'm wary of the Achilles issue returning so do about 18/20 miles weekly running plus a bit of cycling and weights. Used to do speed work but can't get myself motivated to do it these days, although I should! Give us a shout if you ever get down to the Lands End parkrun
@runparkrunwithmeАй бұрын
@@johndoyle5344 ive had Achilles problems in the past. As you get older I’m constantly aware of every niggle and that it could be a sign of a returning injury. 22 mins is a great time. I don’t think there is any quick way to improve. It’s a gradual process. When we do speed work at the club I tend to hold back. I always think that’s the time something is going to happen. Lands End is on the list to do at some point. I haven’t done one in Cornwall which is strange considering I’ve been there every year since 1962.

Really enjoy your videos. Good perspective. Just an observation. You passed a runner with radio ear-muffs. A couple of weeks ago I tried to do the same and was barged out of the way as the runner moved to avoid a puddle. Did not realise I was there. In a world of his own. A bit annoying, to say the least. Perhaps parkrun should ensure Race Directors mention consideration for fellow runners ?
@runparkrunwithme2 ай бұрын
I’m sure some RD’s mention that you shouldn’t wear headphones for the reason you can’t hear. And most RD’s do say they are shared paths and be polite to everyone. When I’ve been barcode scanning, parkrunners mention things to me like you been barged out of the way and I then report to the RD. You will see on most of my videos that I look around to see if there is anyone near me. Peripheral vision is wonderful. But usually you can hear when someone is near.(Especially my breathing😂)
@callmeal4183Ай бұрын
@@runparkrunwithme I'm sure that the RD did mention about consideration for others at the briefing. However, it's likely that the runner in question didn't hear the request as he was wearing those aforementioned headphones!
