Philips HPS lamps tend to cycle wrinkles all the sodium in the arc tube

You usually see coated metal halide lamps only in certain varieties. I don’t know if the mogul base 175W MH lamps are commonly found protected, nor the 250W ones. I think if you want a protected 175W MH lamp that’s universal burn position you have to go with the medium base ones.

HPS lamps tend to lose sodium overtime. Brand new lamps tend to be very yellowish orange in color when running. As they age they tend to get more peachy and more incandescent-like. They sometimes, eventually shift into an incandescent color and eventually due to a bluish mercury color. Brand new lamps are very yellowish orange, but as they age the color gets whiter and whiter until all the sodium gets lost.
