I used to know a girl that if you played just the beginning where Jim is doing his preacher bit she would become absolutely terrified.

Damn! I thought Goth was dead. Bring back Siouxsie, The Cure, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy and all the rest. Then the kids would have something interesting and amazing to listen to. The Doors were pretty damn good to.

You would NEVER see a band open a concert like this - with something this slow and (mostly) sparse - people would freak out. The Doors don't seem at all concerned with proving they can rock. It's just, here we are and this is our thing. The audience doesn't seem to mind. (It was 1968 and they were propably on drugs.) But I'd bet an audeince in 2024 would be unnerved.

This was a huge FM radio hit at the time. People listen to the Doors not scream and yell over them.
@jameskneubuhl91154 күн бұрын
@@StanSwan How do you know? Were you at any of their shows with Morrison? I wasn't, but I've heard many recordings where many in the audience were screaming and yelling over them.
@StanSwan4 күн бұрын
@@jameskneubuhl9115 I have heard every live Doors show out there and people listened to them. It was not like 1964 when teenagers would just scream the entire show.

As a Doors nut maybe you know or don't know. This show was filmed by the Doors and had some issues. One, Jim took ACID before the show and it showed. Two, they needed tons of lights with color film at that time and it bothered Jim. Three, Mick Jagger was sitting in the front row with Jim's girlfriend Pam grinding on his lap. Four, it was recorded on 7 tracks and Jim's mic cut in and out a lot. They had to recycle some parts to fill in the gaps and some even from other live shows. All in all not Jim at his best. In my opinion the best performance caught on video was in Europe in early 1968, Denmark. It is B & W but Jim was sober and they rocked. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH2ko2CNod2AkLssi=jhtYumFQ9sg7d0q5

Love this song. Probably in my top three. The dissonant piano at the beginning is such a great intro, but wouldn't mean anything without the beautiful melody.

The reference in the lyrics " Indians scattered on Dawn's Highway bleeding, Ghosts cr owd the young Child's fragile eggshell mind" come fom life experience Jim had as a child traveling with his Parens & Grand Parents by car, seeing a tragic post-accident scene & Jim felt one or two spirits of dead Mexican Indian children entered his body & remained until his death, the same reference is made in "Peace Frog" a song that must be listened to along with "Blue Sunday" like "Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid" by the mighty 'Zepp & "Waiting for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" by ZZ Top

This guy is wonderful. Even Credence revival has a song of his. But there is a mortal difference. Psychodelic rock was at the beginning, we see through Fire that was the place where Jim Morrison, J. Hendrix, J. Joplin - and even T. Rex would blossom : the most fertile floor ever. In the next future, you mentioned good examples, I can include as followers : Kiss; Marilyn Manson; Ghost DC ( He is...), Marillion, and others. Fire showed us where talent, imagination and energy explosion can lead us. Thanks for the video and comments, great stuff !
