sure hope you gentlemen are doing well! What a wonderful review from both of you. I understand the musical; Assisted Living is still ongoing with the same wonderful energy and actors based in Florida yet traveling around our great United States. Clearly brilliant, clearly wonderful! Good insights, excellent insights Tally-Ho!

Yentl's story is set in a time when gender roles were strictly defined and opportunities for women were limited. The film takes place during the first wave of feminism in the 19th century, a period when women were fighting for basic rights like education and suffrage. However, focusing solely on Yentl as a transgender man overshadows her unique character as a woman who is eager to learn about Torah. Redefining her as a man trapped in a woman's body diminishes the depth of her powerful narrative. Despite the societal norms of her time, Yentl's determination to pursue knowledge challenges traditional expectations for women, showing her bravery and resilience. In this historical context, Yentl's journey becomes even more meaningful, representing the strength of women who defied oppressive gender constraints during that transformative era. Her story stands as a symbol of empowerment, highlighting the struggles and triumphs of women during the first wave of feminism.

I saw the play recently. It's cute and entertaining. The local theater company did a good job. I was especially impressed with the young woman who played Lydia. She captured the flighty, flirty qualities of her personality. My biggest problem with the play is the way Anne de Bourgh is written and portrayed. In the book, she's quiet, sickly, shy, and retiring. In the play I saw, she was very "robust," imposing, and aggressive. I could not accept that Anne's character or physical attributes could change that much, that quickly. I felt like the playwright forced the change in the character to make her plot work and couldn't think how else to do it.

This makes me sad. The St. Louis theatre scene is dismal. New Line? Did that dude really think he could tip that name off? So pathetic.

After offering kudos, the review ends with the question of why the play was produced at all. The play and the subsequent films based on it introduced "gaslight" as a verb, referring to the manipulation of perceptions, including the denial of common reality and demonstrable facts. This was and continues to be a culturally relevant theme. The play's length does challenge our current attention spans, but the question of why it was produced answers itself. A better question is, "Why is it not produced more often?"

Because of union rules and rights, even if we had shot the entire show uncut, we'd be unable to do so. You could try to get in touch with the theatre company themselves to see if they have archive copies of the show to be posted. Thanks!

Saw the show; thoroughly enjoyed it. Large stage aside, if the costume changes had been any faster, it would have required a magician. Sight lines were tough on the stage sides but still a fun performance.

Saw this on Sunday. The production was fabulous as were the actors. I just wish the sound had been better. I strained to hear the dialogue much of the show and I heard a lot of people mention the same thing during intermission.. :/
