I am an ex JW activist running my own website informing about the Watchtower org, and it is paramount to all activism and information efforts, that everything we say is the absolute verifiable truth. Otherwise we damage the cause by playing right into the hand of the governing body by being as dishonest and deceitful as they claim. For that very reason it pains me that the first interviewee is lying through his teeth. He says, they called me to a meeting with a judicial committee and makes it sound like he was expected to go immediately. That is NEVER the case as the judicial committee will not be formed before two elders have had an informal talk with you and given you a date for the meeting. He then states that they disfellowshipped him immediately, which is also a lie. You are informed about the decision to DF, but you are also given a full week to appeal, so it could NOT have been announced right after the meeting, as this time had to pass first, and then they had to wait until the next midweek meeting in the kingdom hall for the announcement. Finally he said that when he was disfellowshipped they told the reason to the congregation, which is also a blatant lie. There is a formal procedure and the elder doing the announcement reads from a form with the exact wording. And it is a brief announcement saying: "Brother (full name) is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses." Nothing more - nothing less! The other three outcomes are either a public reproof which is also read from a written form saying "Brother (full name) has been reproved by a committee of elders" (no reason given), private reproof behind closed doors where the congregation is not informed, and of course decision to drop the case. It is such a shame he is such a liar, as his honest testimony would have been plenty to illustrate what a perverted and destructive cult the JW is. His story also suffers from too many kliché's about the nature of the situation where he was kicked out, like the stereotypical scene of two suitcases outside the door and the kliché about the mother in the window pointing to the road. I don't say it didn't happen but it isn't particularly trustworthy, especially given the fact that he lied about the procedure around the committee meeting and the announcement.

The whole point in disfellowshipping members is to have them repent and return. If you choose not to then thats the choice. Sad to think that people would rather do drugs and sex and booze than to return to God.

My parents used to love threatening me to get out.

My mom has BPD, dad was a deadbeat, stepfathers and "uncles" over the years were all petty criminals, abusive, drug dealers, etc. My siblings and I all came out with various mental issues including depression, BPD, bipolar, ADHD. I was the oldest sibling and pretty much have spent my entire adult life trying to heal and protect my siblings and make a better life for my wife and kids (my mom unfortunately is a lost cause). In spite of all my effort to be a good person, this year my wife decided to divorce me. She just got tired of dealing with my mood swings and splitting, plus some general incompatibility. I just want a quiet peaceful life with stability, she wants to really get out there and thrive and she finds my outlook too bleak and depressing. It's whatever. I've accepted that I don't get to be happy because even at my best I'm not "good enough" for normal healthy well-adjusted people. But I can at least ensure the generational damage stops with me. My kids will get to know true happiness because they have me to protect them from everything. I don't ask for anything for myself anymore. It's all good. I got to know maybe 5 years of real happiness with my wife before she started to turn on me, that's already more than some people get.

It is called removed now. And the dress code has changed. Men have beards and women can wear pants to the meetings. No more ties for men. Maybe change the title to removed. Because they don't use the word disfellowshipped now. Things have changed. Those who want to get back in get in very fast. It was a trip seeing the governing body with beards now. And they call it a committee instead of a judicial committee now.

I was disfellowshipped at 16. I spent a year and a half of no one, literally no one talking to me. I had to eat alone in my room at dinner. I thought about taking my life many times. I am 50 this year. I still have no relationship with any of my family. It’s so incredibly heartbreaking.. these stories are MY story too 🫶🏻🙏

my only contact with Jw was when they still went around trying to convert people. after a few years they stopped coming altogether. the last time they came to the door i acttualy opened the door wearing a slayer tshirt. they looked at the shirt for a second. somehow recognised it and said sorry we wont bother you again since you are a lost cause and never came back.

What I hate most is the horror stories I just don't know how people can be apart of that. They interpret and distort the Bible and made their own Bible, which the real Bible says not to do. I'm just a few minutes in...he's right. People who were your friends for years just never talk to you again, won't acknowledge you in the store. People you've been there for in their worst times and have been there for you! It's like you never existed. It's a pain and a betrayal you just explain how bad that hurts. And it never goes away. A word for witnesses now. Don’t tell someone all your business. They get a little overboard on things that will not cause you to lose eternal salvation. if you can celebrate your anniversary you are not doing anything bad by having a piece of cake on your birthday. Just because the Bible doesn’t mention celebrating your birthday it doesn’t say not to. Communication with your family is ok also. Just keep your mouth shut when at the hall about your personal life. Live like jehovah wants you to but don’t let them completely control you and you will be fine. Your mouth can get you in trouble anywhere.

Disfellowshipping is a rejection by a group and this happens on so many levels, not just in religion. People form cliques and groups at an early age and many of us conform to their norm for fear of being rejected.

This woman is amazing. Its funny how we struggle having compassion and recognizing any strength or integrity towards ourselves due to the disorder, but can easily towards others wirh it. Betrayal trauma is likely the reason for comtining a relationship with an abusive parent in addition to the self blame and unworthiness we have.
