The second of hearing that this game is good as people say, I knew I wanted to try it after buying my first game cyberpunk 2055 or whatever. I thought it will be a normal game play it and done by truly the game wanted you to fill positive maybe that is why I got the same feeling as you and immediately typed this comment.

I never really played a twin stick shooter before, so I decided to really focus on the ranged aspect of the combat early on. I chose mostly ranged damage skills and chose my gear for it. The damage never got good and I ended up struggling at the start of every new area until the jungle, with me at best doing 20% of the damage in a 3 man party. I tried to keep up with equipment without doing too much grinding and did nearly every side quest too. I don't know, maybe i'm just awful at the game, but I only started having fun with non boss combat, once I was forced to spec into melee and defensive skills.

Your review of the first game especially made me smile, because you got it. Yes, the games were made the way they were due to the limits of the technology. But the designers were smart, and set things up in ways that allowed the kids playing the games (because it was 99% kids 15 and younger at that time) to fill in the details with their imaginations, thus creating a very rich experience. Of course, as the technology improved, we put more details into games, and this wasn't a bad thing. We imaginative kids were happy to see each improvement to the tech as they came along. But it's just so refreshing to hear a younger person who wasn't here for that era give these old games a chance and really grasp what it was like for us.

I played this some years ago and I still absolutely love it. Really cool game and what I also love about it, is that it's German. As a German myself I love seeing a good Game from my country while people love to talk trash about our games industry (which is true for many games tbf). But this game is just great. It's even better with the original texting because you just know it hasn't been translated, the jokes work well, it feels natural. It's also funny how they included traditional germen food in the game as consumables, I love these little details. But the main point why I love this game is just the gameplay. It's so good and so fun, so fast and the effects just give you the feeling of being strong, it's just great

Everything seemed to be getting better and better all the time... until the last 20 years or so. Now almost every upgrade, remake, redesign, new car, etc, seems to be worse. What the hell happened?

Hee hee are there any other games (in the Tales of series and elsewhere) that has cute funny boobie envy/jealousy scenes, like the hot springs scene from Tales of Phantasa for example? ("Mint!! You got the biggest tits I've ever seen!!")

I love how this game both reward players (such as me) that like going straight for the story their first time around and then do exploring on a new file/NG+, and players that like doing everything and enjoying every aspect the game offers

1:28:18 "The Director [of PSIII] was the man behind the character profiles in Phantasy Star II !" No, he was not. The Director of PSIII was actually the Assistant Director of PSII (Hiroto Saeki, credited as 'Psyche'). Perhaps you are confusing him with the Director of PSIV, Yoshibon, who was the man behind the character design in PSII (and behind the character profiles in PSIV as well).

These remakes are absolutely awful. Its hard to point out a remake of any old school game that is worse. Here you have absolutely entire collection of garbage, uninspired lackluster remakes. Purely boring. Bland graphics and sound compared to the original games. Awful. Just absolutely shit. Play tne original games and put yourself in tne moment. Much better expertepeati repeat. Avoid the pile of human excrement you are presented. Oh and as far as the English translation?? Compilation of almost accurate lo es of dialog heavily infused with garbage commercial hip hop references. Who asked for a visual, audio AND cultural degradation. I don't know about you, but constantly referencing trash hip hop and r&b forgettable acts almost makes this unplayable. Only if you are some kind of masochistic moron. How is the music worse?????

i would argue that this game is tailored towards children, because the cast quite literally looks like children. perhaps they tried to expand their audience.

Something I would like to mention... I am honestly uncertain if I am correct, or not, but, I believe the games Wizard101, and Pirate101, evolved from Skies of Arcadia. A massive amount of elements from the game are seen in these games... graphics, mechanics, story, a simplified PoV function where you can hold the mouse button and look at elements overhead, out of the normal line of player view, the butterflies seen in the garden of Vyse's home seen in one of the house's, and whatnot, just in a simplified form for younger players...and, it is my opinion Arcadia is somewhere within the Spiral of the 101 games.

I've been putting this video on the backburner until the day I'd finally played through all the Gunvolt games for myself, and I'm happy to say, both the games and this fantastic ranking video was worth the wait! ^_^ Some scattered thoughts: --- - After thoroughly enjoying IX2, I was glad to see so much appreciation for it in this ranking! The more deliberate, melee focused combat wasn't what I was expecting from a Copen sequel... but it was surprisingly fun! It reminded me a lot of the Zero games, actually, especially with the boss design. - Still on the note of IX2, I really enjoyed getting all the achievements for it... but I only got through hard mode with assist mode, and haven't as of yet bought/tackled the DLC bosses. I only beat IX2 for the first time last week, but seeing your praising both the DLC and the hard mode bosses makes me wanna go back to the game and challenge myself to try hard mode again without healing! - GV3 is probably my favorite in the series from a presentation standpoint, and I enjoy Kirin + GV's/Zed's gameplay a lot.... but as of now, I think GV2 is still my favorite! I love the short but sweet length of both GV and Copen's campaigns. The stage design is marvelous. I love being able to switch between the playable characters from the start. And the bosses, as you highlight here, are great! It's the game that begun my Gunvolt hyperfixation these last few months, and it has a special place in my heart because of that. :) --- Thanks so much Zaffre both for making this fantastic deep dive into this fantastic series and for getting me into this series in the first place! I'm looking forward to many future replays of the GV games, and whatever new entries Inti has in store for us going forward!

I bounced off this game like four times. I like the universe and (some of) the characters, but the gameplay and actually being in the game world, those I found to be dreadfully dull. Idk, I’ve found more RPGs I’ve liked since then, me being traditionally a western rpg player, like for instance I’ve come to love persona and now Metaphor. Could be time to give it a fifth go. This could be the time it clicks The again, I did try Arise just a few mo the ago and that game blows so hard. Ugly and thin and badly told.

There is a Phantasy Star retranslation out there that sticks closer to the Japanese source material than the official translation, plus it adds some stuff like being able to reduce the amount of random encounters and increase the rewards from each.
