04:43 What if the Howitzer was attacking a different target? Does the infantry still get a red bonus die from the artillery? I like the simplicity of the combined arms rule, but I'm having a hard time to justify it thematically. Makes me wonder if I can house rule something better. But I assume you have playtested different variants of combined arms rules right?
@pkbgamesАй бұрын
I hear you. Thematically, you can see it like that: the enemy unit is threatened by the artillery and hence cannot operate freely. Also note that the combined arms support “only” adds 2-3 dice vs. a full artillery attack with 12 dice. So you could also see it thematically that the artillery is firing a few shells for the combined arms support, but most of them on their actual priority target. Of course, feel free to experiment with house rules! If you find something that is working particularly well, please consider sharing it with the community on BGG or in the forum on pkb-games.com

Btw: Aces and Armor... vorbestellt 😊
@pkbgames3 ай бұрын
@@fatzo7584 vielen Dank!

Do the miniatures come disconnected from their base or is that a rare thing?
@pkbgames4 ай бұрын
For Trench Club it is unfortunately quite common. A game contains about 70 miniatures, if you have a second set of minis then about 120. Even if 1% gets disconnected that is about 1 in every game. For Aces & Armor we try to avoid this by having larger connection areas for the glue

Speaking of 0:40 - how exactly is the map divided in halves for a two-player game? Is the board literally cut in a half by using either 15 leftmost or 15 rightmost columns of hexes (if I haven’t miscounted them) and making the other half completely unplayable, as if there was no board there? Or is the whole board available as usual, just making the unused half indirectly less important, as there are no (capturable) forts and spawn points? Or perhaps it works in some other way I haven’t thought of? Judging from how it’s phrased in the rulebook, I would suppose the former, but that leaves some strange artifacts right on the border where this dividing line goes - for example, if you use the left half of this board, as in this video, you get strange little parts of the right half across the bridges in the upper part of the map, and the spawn point 6 appears on the edge of the board, having only 4 adjacent hexes (two of which are river, if I get it correctly).
@pkbgames4 ай бұрын
There is a fold in the game board since it is folded in 4 parts. Just use the fold as separator. or just fold the unused part to the back. For the game having some extra territory on the other half map is not that important btw. What really matters is that the factories and start markers are only on one half of the map. Then there is no real use of moving to the "empty" part of the map
@povarpovarovski10214 ай бұрын
@@pkbgames Thanks, didn't know about folds - I don't own the game (at least yet), as I typically like to proof-read rules and check for different sorts of edge cases before buying :) I also came to this conclusion after reading A&A rules. It also uses only a half of the board for a two-player game, but specifies more clearly that it means using only half of the start markers and making factories on the other half uncapturable, with no other changes. Thanks for a quick reply!

Can we play solo with two factions against two automa factions or is it unbalanced? Can the automa roll dice to make things a bit spicier or is it too unbalanced? The aircraft seem to have specialties (bomber and interceptor), wouldn't it be more effective to for the AI to have a priority of attack on aircrafts based on the specialty they have? When the MS262 attacked the land unit based on the fact that it couldn't fight back, it also had an opportunity to attack your B17, that would have been more risky but a greater threat for you. That is a logical move for an intercepter. A rule like "interceptors attack other bombers first, then they look for a unit to destroy, then for a unit that can't fight back" and "bombers attack land units that can be destroyed, land units that can't fight back then air unit that can be destroyed then other land units then other bombers then interceptors" would probably make the AI a great threat on air. What do you think?
@pkbgames4 ай бұрын
You are a very good observer :) The attack priorities take different aircraft types into account, e.g., a fighter would prefer to attack an enemy bomber. And then you spotted a mistake I made well: I missed that the attack priority rules say "Select target THAT YOU CAN DAMAGE as follows". This means the Me262 should not have chosen to attack a unit it could not damage. Regarding your other questions: Yes, you could play with multiple automatic factions. And you can also have the automa roll dice just like the human player, it just slows down the automa turn a bit.

@@pkbgames Thanks for the answers and clarifications. I'm usually not into wargames or WW thematic, but the mechanics of your game are truly appealing. Great job! I am still hesitating to take only that game or to take Trench Club too (bunkers look great, but the solo looks less streamlined), but I'll definitely back it. Hope that in the futur you will be able to continue making games and cover various thematic. The 1870's could be interesting too, after all, our two countries (I'm French) have a rich military history. It would make the game purely on land with slower units, changing completely the strategies needed. Or adding sea units. Or even Teutoburg's battle, against Rome in the forests! The core mechanics look just that good so I can't help projecting myself 😁. Wish you the best!

Of course, there can be different opinions about that, but the system with the pegs works really well and is appreciated by a lot of reviewers and even more importantly players. Thousands of players are playing our previous games "Trench Club" and "Trench Club Legacy" (8.0 and 8.8 on BGG) and love the marker system. While the game development that ranges back 10 years, we have tried all kinds of systems, from markers on the faction boards (as you suggest), to dials on the miniatures, etc. but this system has worked best. Also, adding a damage marker to an enemy unit directly on the miniature has a certain factor of satisfaction :) Give it a try yourself, maybe you will be surprised that it works better in practice than you imagine it from the videos

Aces & Armor has the same game mechanic and similar rules, but a very different gameplay. Is one better than the other? No. They are just different and both deserve a place on your game shelf if you like the game mechanic. As key differences, Aces & Armor has... ... streamlined rules, hence easier to learn and play ... much shorter playing time (1.5-2h for a 4 player game) ... more dynamic battles reflecting WW2 vs. static front lines in WW1
