Genes are the primary cause. This is very well established, but very politically incorrect to point out.

Do we dream more when young? I dreamed prolifically in my twenties. I definitely had a seeking dream last night and I was also attempting to solve a complex problem. In technicolor, no less!

What about semi-conscious mental processing? Ie a mathematician who sits with a problem for days or weeks, who somehow comes up with a solution without being able to explain how he did it? Wouldn't there be an affective element, wouldn't it feel a certain way to him to be in this state, that he might be annoyed at being distracted from continuing?

Read his book The Brain and the Inner World. He is one of the most brilliant people I have come across. He wrote it in 2003 I think.

I know nothing about unfortunate institutionalized babies, so sad. 💕 I only want to suggest that young people in their 20's start a dream journal so that they have evidence of what their unconscious minds are saying to them. The earlier they begin self observation, the more they will begin to understand their drives and feelings. When I began in those years, the dreams just had no emotional 😇connection that I recall now. And my reactions today? omg...🥸😳😧

In psychology the intentionality and the outside world seems to attract or confuse those who believe their childhoods were happy. Therefore, some individuals seek material satisfaction and create families, meaningful work, etc. - if indeed their childhoods were not dysfunctional. Those who are emotionally suffering as adults of any age seek blame in the outside world. They will be attracted to Lacan's psychoanalysis which includes dissenting political activity and other beliefs, thereby believing that early childhood was not the origin of their depression, unhappiness or inability to move into productive adulthood. On the other hand outright abuse does not create happy memories of childhood. However, subtle emotional abuse or subtle neglect are very difficult for children to accept and understand. Hence these confused emotions get buried in their unconscious. A proper psychoanalysis finds these irregularities that only adult minds can understand. How do I know? Because I was one of these children. Perhaps Dr. Solms was not referring to what I expressed, however, these thoughts have been on my mind due to the many misunderstandings of available psychological treatments.
