Mickey was a guitarist when they auditioned to be in The Monkees. When he got the job, they told him that he was going to be the drummer as they already had guitarists and needs a drummer for the group

I was there on Sept. 7, 1986, and I couldn’t go on my 31st birthday the day before on Sept. 6, because it was sold out. At 8:P.M. it was the Herman’s Hermits first - we were told before that, Mike was going to appear; at 8:30, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, at 9:00 was the Grass Roots, to 9:30, stage was unoccupied till about 9:40, THEN my precious Jewels, Davy, Peter, Micky - running jumping, and dancing at times, all over that stage, I wish there was a complete video of all that… THEN, all 3 LEFT the stage - that sold out audience was SO QUIET you could hear ten pins drop … all three then came back, across the stage, and then they kneeled down as the audience was starting to scream again - THEN MIKE CAME OUT and it sounded like a rocket exploded in the middle of the audience ( I was in C section, but way, way, behind were many others in D section) jumping up and down, all at once !!!😅😅😅 And my ticket was only $ 17.00!!! 😊

Mike is a total Legend. Not only did he write the first hit song for Linda Ronstandt (Different Drum) but after his mom passed away, Whe left him 50 mill because she created White Out. He went on the create a video channel which eventually went on to become MTV. Ager may years, he was finally given his due. Reat in Peace Mike😊

I love that Davy sang this solo. I love Peter, but him concentrating on the keyboard added to the song.

Love this Monkees tune. All my faves just happen to be the ones Nesmith sings lead on but Valleri is in my top 10. The producers of the show did a really good job pairing the tunes with the members. And yes Michael Nesmith actually did play guitar although I really don't think he was on the studio recording for the show. When fans started realizing that the monkeys weren't actually playing their instruments Nesmith was adamant about everyone learning how to play their instruments

I'm still angry at Mike for dropping out of this tour. He took away my one and ONLY chance to see all four Monkees live. That is something for which I can never forgive him.

Wish the band or promoter had filmed this for distribution later on. They're so good and all seem to be happy. In interviews done after this tour Micky explained why Mike stopped touring with them after this. Despite playing to packed houses of adoring fans, the critics crucified them in the press. After that, Micky said Mike wouldn't tour with them anymore.

When I heard the news about Mike Nesmith's death, this was the first thing I thought of. I was at the Greek that magical night when he reunited with the band, and it was pure bliss for this Monkees fan. R.I.P., Mike. Thanks for the music, thanks for the laughs, thanks for making that night in 1986 such a special one.

Mike's final appearance with Micky (and the last ever Monkees concert) was at this same venue on November 14th 2021. He died less than a month later at the age of 78.
