my flight instructor would have pointed out quite sternly that above 5000ft you should set your QNH to standard 1013 hpa and thus you are no longer flying at 10 500 ft but at FL105 which can be a difference of several hundred feet depending on atmospheric pressure

We don't really do that here. We typically use flight following if flying CC and use the altimeter setting provided by atc for their sector. Otherwise, we use the nearest AWOS setting. thanks for your video. that's all well and good when you have a runway you can set an airliner down on. But with the short (often grass) runways on European airfields (often less than 2.000ft and close in obstacles) a long flare like this will have you set down way beyond the middle marker. Any way to make that landing a little shorter? Approach at 60kts?

FLTPlan was WAY better prior to Garmin buying it. FLTPlan pretty much showed everything back then. special use airspace, restrictions, etc. The UI was better as well. Garmin appears to be slowly crippling FLTPlan Go. FLTPlan had all the features that it does today PLUS many others. FLTPlan, in my humble opinion, was close to the quality of Foreflight. It has been very sad to watch Garmin destroy a great platform. Just a side note, the UI for FLTPlan Go on iOS is way better than on Android. FLTPlan on iOS is also better than the crazy clunk interface of Garmin Pilot. If anyone knows why Garmin is doing deploying a worse interface than the normal "garmin-nese," please tell.

The only people that get your remote Id is the agencies(you could turn that off too). Second, there is chip that could turn off your remote ID with a switch. You could do this with consumer drones or diy. Technically, this whole thing is pointless to have and waste of money.

@@iflycentral I was wondering, how practical it is to use a stand-alone GPS device in a plane nowadays, compared to say iPad or a mobile phone? Do they still make those? @PappaBear_yt the panel mounted units are still a necessity for instrument operation, however, they are hardly necessary for VFR navigation these days. When you consider the fact that the data being used is already paid for by tax dollars... yeah. I kinda chafed at 109.99, but 209.98 a year was too big of an ask. Especially when they are also producing another app that does it for free.

Hello, great video! I'm wondering if you could help me with my landings? I have a Musketeer Super III (200hp) that I just bought, and I'm getting a nose bounce often when I land. Your landing in this video are consistently excellent! Would you be willing to share your final approach speed, and how you are flying the plane just before touchdown? I have the Madras (Demer) tips on my plane, so I'm thinking I could land slower than I do. My last plane was a Piper Cherokee and I felt like I mastered landing it but not the Musketeer yet. It seems like flying it more flat to the runway is the way verses flaring the plane. Thanks for your videos!!
@iflycentral
@iflycentral 11 ай бұрын
I fly a tight pattern, so I make a power off base turn once I see the end of the runway appear just behind my trailing edge from pattern altitude (1000' AGL). You may want to modify this a bit depending on your level of familiarity and comfort with the plane. My typical approach: Rounded power off base to final at about 85 knots indicated CLEAN, once I turn final and know I have the runway made I dump full flaps, trim is set such that I need to apply only slight forward pressure and cross the fence at about 70 knots indicated, round out about 60 knots indicated and don't look at the ASI again for the remainder of the landing, normal flare but hard back on the yoke just as the mains touch (not before & not after). Even if you bounce on the mains DO NOT try to lower the nose. That will result in crow hoping / proposing down the runway as the plane bounces backwards and forwards on the pucks. Best way to counter a bounce on the mains is to add just a little power and then bring the power back out as she settles onto the runway. One thing to note: My plane has the tail weight STC. I've never flown one without the tail weight personally, however, I've been told that adding about 50lbs to the baggage compartment has a similar effect to the tail weight. I'd suggest finding a nice long runway to practice my technique to reduce your pressure while practicing. That way you can aim for the thousand foot marker and not worry too much if you come short or go long of the mark. Because of how the plane is trimmed for this technique, you MUST be prepared to push forward on the yoke in the event of a go around. That would be especially true of your 200hp Super III.
