Terrible sounding chords with that tuning. Buy a four string cbg. It is a lot more versatile and sounds great with standard tuning.

The original tuning for the first strings he used were (from lowest to highest) A-D-G-B. He just tuned the A to a G: G-D-G-B (open G). You could also use D-G-B-D (banjo tuning without the drone string)

If i tune 151 like almost every cigar box guitar player does, i can play any chord with only 1 finger. GDG, DAD, EBE etc.

I'm trying to learning how to play these CBG's that I make, and just finished a 4 string. You mentioned 2 chord shapes in this video. What was the finger position? I don't know any chord shapes.

Far easier ways to do the exact same thing with D or G open tuning. DAD or GDG 151 tuning makes more sense. Most Blues and Rock songs are played in the 1-4-5 method, which is so easy to do in 1-5-1 tuning. This method is confusing and based off of a 6 string concept.

Excellent lesson. I think the Open A tuning you're using is actually better than the Open G that's now almost standard. Appreciate you taking the time and effort to share this.

What are the best strings, acoustic, classic (nylon), or electric? In the case of using magnetic pickup's, it will be better electrical I suppose ... but, the electrical strings are more difficult to press? Thank you very much!

+John Richard Your ears must be better than my tuner...or probably not. But, new strings DO have a tendency to go out quickly during playing. You probably didn't know that though.
@johnrichard96069 жыл бұрын
you should stretch new strings to avoid that problem. There are lots of videos on You Tube that will explain this.
@glassholio9 жыл бұрын
What strings out of the standard six are you using for this tuning?
@jtwunchained9 жыл бұрын
+Keith Glass I use the A-D-G strings (from bottom to top the 3rd, 4th and 5th). This is also good because a lot of people like the GDG tuning on a cbg and that tuning uses the same strings. This makes it easy to change tunings quickly depending on what you're making.
@LoganCartwright8 жыл бұрын
+Travis Woodall Hi Travis Please excuse newbe confusion; Ur Reply to MrQuidestveritas "I use the same strings as a GDG tuning" and here you say A-D-G strings. ?? (Sorry if I'm missing the obvious) logan
@jtwunchained7 жыл бұрын
Typically with CBG's that are tuned G-D-G the low 'G' is achieved by using an A string from a standard pack of strings and just tuning it down a whole step to G. Hope that makes sense.
@l.bolton35989 жыл бұрын
Good lesson. I use this tuning some, but more often, DGB, which is an open G and the same string relationships. You made a thing or two clearer for me. Thanks.
@jtwunchained9 жыл бұрын
+L. Bolton Yeah, basically the same shapes would apply. It's a great tuning to expand your 3-string playing.
