Reconsider the music it’s annoying unnecessary and distracting. Anyone hard of hearing will have difficulty understanding the important part ….the relevant information being discussed.

I work harder now, like really putting in hours, so that one day I can have a small bit of property to adopt a greyhound. Real story, I was afraid of dogs, terrified of larger ones, until I was fourteen and I met Ernie the big old greyhound. Never have I met a more sweet, goofy, just purely awesome animal, and i fell completely in love. I can now say with confidence that I am an avowed dog person, in the sense that I can't encounter any dog without doing the baby voice and giving them pats and belly rubs. That has had mixed results with police dogs, but overall, Ernie was an ambassador for dogs everywhere and should be praised.

When Florida banned greyhound racing, my wife and I started looking at adopting a retired racer. There was a local organization here in northern Indiana that took in those dogs and adopted them out. They were so great at working with us to find the right dog for us. We've had our lovely girl for almost 4 years and she turns 8 years old in September of this year. I really don't think I'd adopt a different breed. Especially since there are still plenty of greyhounds out there looking for forever homes.

I grew up with poodles/poodle mix. My last childhood dog (a cavoodle) sadly crossed the rainbow bridge in January this year. In the haze of grief, Greyhounds were suggested to me and I was embarrassingly unaware they were an option as a pet. Long story short, I ended up volunteering at the GAP shelter and met my sweet girl. I’ve had her about three months and couldn’t be more besotted with her.

Interesting that Whippets have exactly the same behaviour than their "bigger" ones. I have a whippet and would like to have in Brazil those greyhounds.

Thank God this is a massive step forward for these magnificent animals. There should be a retirement fund set up for the animals who are lucky enough to be adopted. The ongoing cost for supporting these adopted animals is enormous when you consider food and vet bills. Even if their yearly supply of flea tick and heart worm medication was funded by greyhound racing Australia would be a great help. The people who are willing to clean up the mess caused by greyhound racing should get as much assistance as possible. When you hear these dog racing people say how much they love their animals , doesn’t cut it with me. That love certainly diminishes when the dogs racing days are done. The sad thing is there are still many dogs being put down after racing still and this heart breaking.

I volunteered in placing retired racing greyhounds for ten years and had three of my own. I fostered many. I agreed with almost all the video said. But I have to say I'm disturbed that Australia requires them to be muzzled in public (I'm in the U.S.). That is likely why people in Oz think they are aggressive! The reason you ever - EVER - muzzle one is to race or run with other dogs, because they tend to nip each other in fun when racing. That's why racing greys wear muzzles. It has nothing at all to do with any aggression toward humans. Also - the only big error I caught in the video was that when the vet said greyhounds used to be only owned by nobility (the law all over Europe in the Middle Ages) - which is true. But he assumes the reason is that "they were such great family dogs", and that is not it at all. For hundreds of years they were only owned by nobility because they were used to hunt large game and only the landowner (nobleman or king) was allowed to hunt big game. For a commoner to be caught with a greyhound meant that he was poaching game, and that was a huge big deal in a time when all game meat came from hunting. It was major theft. Greyhounds were rarely "family dogs"", but rather kept together in kennels and used for hunting. Kings would have up to several thousand of them, and often gifted them to other noblemen.

I just had a question with being off leash, dog beaches etc - i know there's various official recommendations when the dog has been through a GAP safety assessment, I live in an apartment and for exercise i was hoping to take my greyhound to the beach for a stretch of his legs - is it a gentle introduction, socialising matter or is it just not viable for a greyhound to be off leash a t a dog beach?
