how cute I also have a Marklin locomotive but the BR 03 locomotive isn't there but I have similar trains that have the same brand as Marklin

For its time this 0-8-0 BR55 was a great model and I do think it can be made into a great runner with some more TLC. Great video, Jersey Bill

I would have tried (possibly without success) some insulating tape before trimming the metal strip but well done for resolving the problem. I have a Bachmann 2-8-0 Austerity that suddenly started shorting and it was something similar. My local model shop spotted that one of the pick-up strips along the underside of the chassis plate had distorted slightly and were touching the metal chassis!

I had two or three of these engines, and they were all good runners - built like the proverbial tank, solid and reliable, with metal frames and motion. They were true to 1/87th scale too, unlike the original Flieschmann model. In those days Piko made cheap but good models - sadly, not too long afterwards they started using nylon moulded valve gear and motion, which gets fatigued after a decade or two and falls apart. Since reunification they've moved very determinedly upmarket; they're still beautiful models, but now at a big price!

I hate Piko because they still haven’t made a G scale 60 degree crossing which was added to their catalog in 2012

I just sold over £5700 worth of brand new Honrby OO and started my layout in TT now. I think this video is rather harsh.

Enjoy the new scale. :) I think you're the typical TT:120 enthusiast... not 'new to the hobby', which is what Hornby told us TT:120 would attract.

Looking at the R/H side con rods one seems to not be correct. i suspect that it might be the cause of the poor running.

A tad unfair using the modern Piko logo on the thumbnail given this loco was made by a communist outfit that has nothing to do with the modern company.
@LocomotionMotion17 сағат бұрын
Sorry. I don't have that older logo as a graphic file that I can use on the thumbnails - especially so with the limited graphic software I have access to :-/

These were considered the best Br55 on the market n 1966, it took Fleischmann until the 1980's to make one that was better detailed. These do not run with the weights removed as the parts that are left after removal are just two stamped steel plates and a lot of plastic. The brushes are hiding under the round cover plate and the commutator might need some cleaning too. These were most often sold separately, in the Netherlands Bart Smit (toy store) did negotiate a deal where this locomotive was included in a starter set. On train shows these are often a 'buy 3 get 1 or 2 working' type of locomotive, as many have the main gearbox out of sync. Getting one in the original box is rare, except for the KPEV green ones.

I have one of these as well as the Fleischmann version. Mine runs well although it is noisy. I think from memory I gave the commutator a good clean. It'll never be as good as the fleischmann, which runs so well and quietly but it does have one advantage: if you put both side by side the Fleischmann looks like it's had growth hormone...frustratingly the Fleischmann is closer to 1/80 scale whereas the Piko is pretty much to scale. Not sure why Fleischmann were over sized especially considering they where tender drive. I painted mine all black to turn it into an sncf (I believe they were part of WW1 reperations).

every European railway had these locos, it was basically like a European answer to the generic USRA consolidation and it's variants.

@@JohnDavies-cn3ro I have a Union Pacific one that came with a western train set it even has 2 compartment coaches in brown and creme that say union pacific, a misourri pacific G02 boxcar and an Illinois steam packet SBB style boxcar with brake platform and a black undecorated lumber car. It was the second attempt that piko made to appeal the American modelers, in fact they tried back in the 50's with some Santa Fe E44's Misouri pacific Bromberg style boxcars and santa fe D-zug coaches. They are very rare though. I'd like to get ahold of one.

Another amusing video but, in defence of Dapol, model railway modelling is a broad "church" so these will appeal to some, especially now that they couple and run better than before. After all, colourful wagon liveries have been produced for many decades. For example, Airfix / GMR produced a number in the late 1970s. They are reasonably priced as well. Personally I do not like Hornby's Beatles' wagons at all but I recall that Simon K recently claimed that he has met people who have told him that such models encouraged them to get into more conventional model railways. Anyway, it is all horses for courses or am I mixing my metaphors?
