The long hood looks best but if the cost is enough to make the owner wary then avoid it. It is the right thing to do but you have to do that correctly or not at all. If it was mine I would just make it custom to me piece by piece. Start at the rear and then you have time for the financial choice on the big change in front.

Very good question and yes I have done this check. There are also a few unique 71 only parts on the car.
@jeffhammond8969Ай бұрын
Hmm, I guess there are several questions - is it a numbers matching engine and transmission? If so, going toward an F-body restoration would make sense. If not, and the purpose is just to enjoy, do whatever the owner wants. Personally, I would ditch the turbo and do a twin plug 2.8 naturally aspirated motor with the old factory sport exhaust (twin center tips)
@SavagePorsche911Ай бұрын
Love a 2.8 twin plug! Is it better than a 3.0L (non-matching) turbo though? I guess higher revving?
@jeffhammond8969Ай бұрын
@ different experience - higher revving, not as much total power, but more responsive and linear compared to the shove when a turbo kicks in. There's a reason they were called the Widowmaker!

Option 3 would be my vote. Deep down you know that’s the right thing to do

It is registered as a 72, but the serial and lack of oil flap indicates it's a 71.

It's a nice looking car from far with loads of potential, I've seen it in person and know one of the previous owners. I guess it depends how much effort and money one is willing to be put in. If it were me (I'm reasonably capable on the tools and have massive OCD), I would pretty much strip it back, attend to the rust issues and fix up all the stuff that is not necessarily seen. I'd try to work with what's already there as much as possible, ie; G front end and G wide body. Probably just put impact bumpers on and a whale tail or tea tray.

Hi, Wanted your advice: I have a stock 1967 911 thats been restored to a not so great level. However, everything works. Wanted your advice on what all i should upgrade? I had thought brakes mounts and bushings would a nice easy upgrade along with sway bars and new shocks back and front... anythign else i could easily do that would have a good impact on performance? Also, do you think its worth it getting easy S calipers instead of the originals? would it make an appreciable difference? The car isnt driven very hard. and lastly, if i were to rebuild the original calipers etc, any place I could get a kit to do so? Thanks so much, i really appreciate your advice
@SavagePorsche9112 ай бұрын
All bushings are worth looking at and replacing. In particular the shift and throttle bushings improve the driving experience a lot. Brakes have also come a long way, there's a huge difference between a new Boxster caliper and an original 70s caliper.

Pretty stupid of you to go speeding in areas blocked by a line of parked cars where you can't see if some kid is going to run out from nowhere chasing a ball or something. If you hit and kill someone, they'll put you in prison for about 15 years.

@SavagePorsche9119 ай бұрын
I would guess it's not a real RUF car because RUF didn't swap engines across chassis's i don't believe (i.e. this is a 993 turbo engine in a G series car). Perhaps the engine was originally out of a RUF car though.

That's a cool build for sure. Not just the engine, but the other attention to detail in the interior and as you pointed out the effort to dissipate heat. It's a wonder that these air cooled engines were ever able to run, but run well they do indeed.
