you've inspired me to do the math and it turns out, shadow flame is almost never worth it on most mages as a second item compared to rabadons (burn champions or champions with absurdly high base damages and low ratios are exceptions). Using Lux level full combo which does 1565+369%AP and the build of luden's companion+rabadons or shadowflame with an amp tome+sorcs+(dorans and runes,which i just assumed to equal 30) at level 13 against a target with 34 mr as a test case and assuming that shadowflames crit applies maximum value, a lot of those conditions chosen specifically to favour shadowflame, it does 5% more damage than rabadons, 2507 vs 2597. It is important to point out that most champs considering it as an item do significant burst damage. If (for example) you hit them from 40%hp to 5% hp with one spell, the crit can only benefit damage on the remainder of that 5% which is likely overkill and irrelevant. Assuming that the passive generates no relevant extra damage, rabadons does 4% more damage 2507 vs 2427 Take one of those favourable assumptions away, little to no crit value , moderate mr, or a bit more ap, and they are about the same, or rabadons does more damage. Take multiple of those assumptions away or a lot more mr or ap and it skews somewhat heavily towards rabadons. It does depend a lot on champion too, with lux's combo being relatively high base damage compared to ap ratio at this level (i think, didnt actually check everyone) compared to someone like leblanc 1165+334%AP who should favor rabadons even more. Brand on the other hand should probably always go shadowflame over rabadons (didnt actually do the math for him) of course this assumes that you care about more damage over the pretty crit text, which if you dont v(=w=)v

hi just found your channel, I used to play rank and now just play casually. I wanna know what do you think abt Spellbook ? I've been theory-crafting, spellbook offers a lot of untapped utilities and defenses. I go Flash Barrier and I have access to Exhaust, Cleanse, TP, Ignite, Heal etc. It allows me to be more bold and go for more AP and haste which puts my E on 10s or less. So far, I've been enjoying this build but yeah this is casuals. I wanna know if this will work in the higher elos.
