What I don’t get is why they would write a vocal melody like 3:50 on their latest release that just came out last year. They know his range isn’t what it used to be and that he’d never be able to do it live. It’s like the vocalist equivalent to a guitarist that nails things in the studio using multiple takes that they could never do live.

@@geneticsmatter3834 I agree with the other guy that responded to ur comment. As an aspiring musician, when I write songs the idea comes before the performance. I often have to learn and practice what I wrote for myself. I know a ton of bands, including DT and Petrucci, who have to practice their own material and low key hate themselves for writing it that way. Like JP always says when he has to relearn the Dance of Eternity he's like "what the absolute fuck was I thinking when I wrote this part. It literally just doesn't even make any sense." But ya, even with that in mind, when I saw Labrie sing that part even I was thinking it's kinda retarded he wrote that on this album when he literally can't sing anymore. I'm not even sure he realizes how much he can't fucking sing anymore tbh.

Mastodon on a guitar, Porcupine Tree on a piano and The Dance of Eternity on drums(!!!). Not mentioning the other stuff, but that just drew my attention. Huge respect!

@@vicramos3141 they both played MDF. This was my observation after seeing them both at the same event. I don't think the comparison is incongruous. They have many similarities, and one gets nowhere near the same accolades as the other.
