Great looking location but it must not get much rain since that steep gravel road doesn't have any erosion.

Did you use all the same type of screws for this job. Did you use any type of Lag Screw / Bolt at any time/??? How did your waste insulation pile get that bad, you know it can be used in cavities with spray foam between it.

Yea, be careful. I ran a generator exhaust thru a shed wall with 6" square metal plate centering a 1.5" metal exhaust pipe and after a year of occasional use (20hrs total gen run time) the heat transferred thru the metal plate to the 2x6 framing wood and caught the shed wall on fire. Yours looks very similar which is why I'm commenting. I also monitored mine closely and still can't believe it caught the wood on fire. The fire dept said that wood can ignite as low as 200F if really dry and/or perhaps just a bit charred which can happen over time as the metal plate transfers heat to mounting wood. Gen exhaust pipe at the point of going thru the wall (about 4ft from generator) was ~400F. Don't mean this comment as being critical, just sharing that it wasn't safe for my situation if it helps you. Thanks for sharing :)

what do you do with the grounding wire on the litime invertor? I don't know if we need to install a grounding rod or can we just leave it? thanks
@bigskyoffgrid
@bigskyoffgrid 7 күн бұрын
We'll definitely be installing a permanent grounding rod outside the cabin and attaching the inverter to it. We're in the process of moving the inverter inside next to the electrical panel. If you installed the inverter in a RV, grounding to the RV steel frame would be the best option.

I live in a part of Wisconsin that is mostly pine and oak. I've always been told not to plant near long needled pine trees because they make a turpentine that isn't good for gardens. That being said, my garden is small raised beds with bagged soil that is supposed to have all the nutrients (not near pine trees) but my garden was pretty sparse this year, some tomatoes, carrots, a few potatoes and a few strawberries is about all I was able to harvest. You also might want a taller fence, deer can clear a 5 foot fence and also, small rabits can crawl through a bigger weave. I had to put chicken wire around my beds. Cute Halloween decorations!! Better luck next year on the gardening!!

I’m so sorry about your garden. You did learn from it so that helps. Maybe you could also add a small green house. Also rain water catchment is good for watering the plants. And maybe the drained water from you wash machine. If it makes you feel any better, my first garden I planted was very sparse too. You’ll do better next year. 😊

I have no idea why You cut the flanges off of the windows & installed the frames to the inside of the walls. You now will have massive leaking.
@bigskyoffgrid
@bigskyoffgrid Ай бұрын
We couldn't afford to buy new windows for the cabin. We bought most of the windows used or salvage. Some window had the flanges cut off, some were remodel windows. We chose build the window sills tilted down 5 degrees to drain, recess all the windows, flash the sills, seal all around the windows. Recessing windows is not a new install method, the way we did it might been a bit unique though. Recessing windows prevents most of the moisture from even hitting the windows. Now that we have 2 foot overhangs on the roof, very little water hits the windows. There will be some blowing rain and snow but it is pretty minimal. We haven't had any leaks from any of the windows we've installed. When we installed the windows we did not know which type of siding we would be using or if we would add a layer of continuous exterior insulation. Recessing the windows allowed for more options down the road to finish the outside.

There aren't many videos on this particular inverter charger so I was very happy to come across your video. Quick question. Have you tried to power this inverter from a generator? I recently purchased this inverter and it runs fine off the grid power but it does not qualify generator input. It passes electricity through but it does not charge the battery from a generator. Charging works fine when connected to grid power. Per the product manual, a possible cause for this is a high input voltage (from a generator), but I'm not aware of inverter generators (that's what I'm running) that allow you to adjust the generator output voltage (mine shows 126V output, it does not have AVR but has an ECM, which can be reset by disconnecting wires, which doesn't help). I reached out to LiTime customer support but I'm not getting much help with the current rep (I'm yet to get through to a technical person who can do more than just read the product manual). I also played with a dip switch on the inverter, which is designed to address the exact issue, but changing the input voltage doesn't seem to fix the problem. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

We were able to use the charging function on the Inverter Charger using both a Champion 3500W inverter generator as well as our large home power stations. I can't think of anything you haven't already tried to troubleshoot. The only thing I can think of to test would be to put a load on the generator (something like 500watts) to drop the voltage a bit. Or use a long heavy duty extension cord from the generator to the inverter charger (100' 10 gauge extension cord) to also drop the voltage a bit. Not great solutions, but they might give you a bit more info. Would you mind sending us an email at [email protected]? We will forward it over to our contacts at LiTime to help assist.

@@bigskyoffgrid Hello again. Thank you for your response. Based on your experience it sounds like I might've had a faulty unit. This inverter is indeed designed to deal with a wide range of voltage and amperage input but for some reason, it did not work for me. I've exchanged lots of emails with LiTime's customer support and eventually, they agreed to take back the unit. They could not figure out what was happening. Btw, I tried putting an additional load on the generator but that did not help. I ended up buying Victron setup and it worked beautifully on the first try.
