Wrong place to ask, but the rods, I cannot find their tolerance in OD. Anyone who knows what their tolerance is?
@igusUK
@igusUK 7 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment! At the moment we do not state an outer diameter tolerance, we just state that it’s over size. This is something we are working on in our HQ in Germany to allow us to give a tolerance.

@@igusUK Thanks for follow up. I did find that on your site yesterday. I was hoping to find light rods for my 3-d printer, as my custom gantry design is super light weight. Hopefully something 8mm in diameter. As far as I can tell, you got 8mm h8 solid aluminium. That is the lightest you got? Using something like an E3D Roto at 157g, my large size printer ends up with about 950g of rods then. More than half of the moving mass, will be the rods themselves. Tubes are more efficient as for strength vs weight, but the only tube you got, as far as I can see, is an aluminium at od12 with thick walls? That is just completely overkill as to what I am trying to do. That dimension increases the overall weight, due to the bussing size, and the moving mass of this thing will still primarily be the mass of the rods. It is a real bummer that you guys do not offer something I can use, because this should be something that you guys really should be offering. This plays to absolutely every strength of your products and your services. I guess nobody is aware how this can be done, and how crazy the result is. There probably is no demand. Not yet. Time to work on it. I will use some horrible 10mm aluminium tubes and some 8mm carbon fiber tubes, just to show people what can be done. Also, your plain bussings should work as belt idlers? Say the one with ID10 and od12. That will use an axel rod of 10mm. That is far easier to integrate into a printed part, as the surface is just so much wider. It will also be far lighter, if the axel also is a tube. Again, I guess I have to make this, for people to even get the point. Plastic simply have different strengths than metal, and should simply be used differently. Soemtimes with an insane benefit. I mean, even as for cable chains, we are still smack down your core domain. Yet hardly anyone is using your products for 3D printers. Apart from some Vorons, and only for cables. There is also a misplaced focus on tolerance and accuracy in the 3d-printing crowd. The accuracy is simply not there, in these 3-d printed parts we use, as the printing itself simply do not achieve anywhere near the accuracy we demand from the parts we use. Thus for Igus as a company, targeting this crowd, you need to revise how you apply tolerances, as some are critical, while others are almost irrelevant. But it should be possible to make dirt cheap printers, as kits, with your products. Particularly if you had tubed rods at 8mm, that can be ordered or offered at specific lengths. Rods that fit your cheaper bussings. You are aware that most 3d printer uses machine screws as rods for belt idlers? Most 3D printers clamp the rods into place, with an accuracy destroying anything of the accuracy of the rods provided?

Hi, thanks for your comment. The robolink can be bought as individual joints so you can construct the robolink arm to suit your application. Alternatively, they can come as a pre assembled robot arm. Find out more here: www.igus.co.uk/info/robotics-robolink

the print speed displayed in the video is that the normal speed for this printer? Ive been trying to figure out for awhile how fast bigreps can go
@igusUK
@igusUK 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Baret, thank you for your comment. The video is not necessarily representative for any bigrep 3D printer’s capacities. How fast a print can go is dependent on the hot end's melting capacity and thus the material, the desired quality and resolution (the motion system will usually be plenty capable). Also, this video was taken at a trade show and we wanted to let it go slower so that we didn’t have to tend to the machine every few hours. Hope this helps. Hello.. over long distances .. what tools do you recommend (Lasers, any mold, etc..) to maintain the alignment of the channel where the chain is mounted. BR
@igusUK
@igusUK 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jorge, thanks for the question! There are various ways that we can control this. One of the best ways is the use of one of our floating towing arms. You can see the concept of this here: www.igus.co.uk/search?q=floating%20towing%20arm#Allgemein Whether or not you need to use one of these is driven partly by the amount of lateral deviation that the moving end of the energy chain will see, along with the travel distance and e-chain series. One of our specialists would be happy to talk to you further to discuss, please send us your contact details and we will call you to discuss!
